Paraguayan Steals Wimbledon Show Connors, Vilas Advance THE DAILY OKLAHOMAN Wednesday. June 27, 1979 21 Scoreboard WIMBLEDON. England (AP) ictor Peeci, the little-known Paraguayan who has soared to tennis prominence in recent months, crushed Sherwood Stewart in straight sets Tuesday as the sun shone on Wimbledon. Pecci won 7-5. 6-2, 6-3 and played the most consistent tennis seen on the famed center court thus far in the two days of action.

Defending women's champ Martina Navratilova highlighted action with a tough first round victory against Tanya Harford of South Africa. 4-6, 6-2. 6-1. After the rain and upsets of Monday. when three men's seeds were toppled, the courts were drier and the results more predictable.

Jimmy Connors and Guillermo Vilas. two of the top challengers for Bjorn Borg's title, won their first- round matches handsomely. Connors, who led by two sets to one overnight, completed a 6-2, 6-7. 7-5, 6-3 win over Jean Francois Caujolle of France. Vilas punished British veteran left-hander Roger Taylor 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to the dismay of the 17,000 fans on the center court.
