THE LANCASTER NEWS JOURNAL, FRIDAY MORNING, MAY 29, 1925 ELEVEN1 Rocky Springs Park Ready For Opening On Memorial Day Caterpillar Latest In Rocky Springs Amusement More Than $300,000 Invested In Amusements For Young And Old Opens Thirty-First Season Lancasters amusement seekers will have the advantage of a real thrill this summer on the Caterpillar, the latest attraction of riding devices to entertain young and old at Rocky Springs Park which Is ready tor the opening o f its thirty-first season on Memorial Day. Ever since the opening of the park last season H. B. Griffiths, the proprietor, had his mind set on the latest attraction which is a real pleasure 'thrill much varied from Ask For Shisslers Sweet Havana And Simon Pure Cigars AT ROCKY SPRINGS the "Jack Rabbit thrill. The Caterpillar consists of twenty-four cars of two seats each with a covered top. The cars are on rails with an effect of a crawling caterpillar with a hood over th etop consisting of a green cover and giving the general appearance of the insect. At the park are found many other amusements which have attracted thousands of Lancastrians and persons from cities within a radius of seventy miles and more to spend the day. Other Attractions Of the other attractions of importance are: the aeroplane swing, one of the additions of last season, the carrousel of the latest type with three tiers of jumping horses, brilliantly lighted with a fine organ attached; the Whip, an oxhlleratlng eccentric ride found In all the large seaside resorts and large parks; (he Scooter, introduced to the patrons last season; the Jack Rabbit, a popular amusement at the park for several years and the many other features on the childrens playground, athletic field, crystal pool spacious dance pavillion known as the Crystal ball room. Stevens, who arrived Friday, May 29, from Cleveland, O.. where ho had a position on the faculty of the Case School of Applied Science. Prof. Stevens has had direct charge of the pool for the past live years and is well known to the lovers of the acquatio sport in this vicinity. POLICEMAN ON DUTY Special rolico Officer, Walter W. Dull will ho on duty at Rocky Springs park during the summer. Above to the left is shown the Jack Rabbit at Rocky Springs P ark which has thrilled thousands of persons and was the first latest modern type device Installed at the park several years ago replacing The F igure Eight which was one of the first amusements at the park. At the right above is shown The Whip which went into action at the park last summer and proved to be a popular amusement. Below on the left is shown The Caterpillar which is the latest addition to the riding devices at the park. The Caterpillar" gives the amusement seeker plenty of thrill and a popular price of ten cents wi 11 be the admittance charge. At the right.below, is a picture of the hundreds of shade trees a long Rocky Springs side under which hundreds of city people find relief from the torrid heat, and care to spend a few hours in quietness, along t he Conestoga River which offers canoeing for those who indulge In that sport. All the buildings at the park have been newly patnted in white with green trimmings, making an attractive appearance. The park is well Illuminated this season as one thousand additional electric lights have been installed. The road from Witmers bridge on the Lincoln Highway is the best available entrance to the Park, having been recently refinlshed with an asphalt coating and making the drive Into the park a real pleasure. Rocky Springs Is a modern amusement park in every respect. Proprietor H. B. Griffiths, now past his seventieth mile stone, has spent more than $300,000 for amusements in this park. It is located along the beautiful Conestoga River and comprises forty-two acres with ten acres of shade trees. Its popularity as a picnic grounds is growing constantly and a big season is looked forward to by the persons In charge at the park concessions. Ample Accomodations Accomodation Is made to shelter thousands of persons in case of sudden storms or rains; the sanitation of the park Is clean throughout; no disorder of any kind Is allowed as Special Police Officer Walter W. Dull In on duty to quell any arguments or rowdiness that may arise. Rocky Springs park Is noted for its delightful spring water which has quenched the thirst of thousands of picnickers each year. The Crystal hall room has been renovated and decorated in a pleasing color scheme of pink and green by the Interior Decorating Department of Leinbach and Company. The spacious dance floor has been leased for the coming season by Lancaster Post, No. 34, American Legion, with Thomas Krlck, manager. The Jack Rabbit will be charge of Joseph Figari; the skating rink will be run by Charles De Philippi; ice cream and candies nfade by Robert F. Keppel and Brother Inc., of 323 North Queen street, will be sold' by John Agourldl and pop-corn by E. Manolakis. The penny arcade will be In charge of Mrs. Ida Ber linger and Mrs. Jeannette Hunter will again take her summer quarters close to the dance pavilion as palmist. HIGH LIGHTS AT ROCKY The meats served in the cafe and "hot dogs at Rocky Springs Park are the product of Rieker Brothers, of 39 East Vine street. The bread rolls used for the hot dogs are made by the Brlcker Baking Company, of 615 South Plum street Cigars and tobacco are furnished by Simon Shlssler, of 39 East Orange street. All the laundry at Crystal pool Is done by the Manhattan Laundry, of 231 West King street. Candles and other confections at the park are manufactured by R.
