today. This half- hour dramatization is based on the experience of Victor and Eva Saxl in Japanese occupied Shanghai in 1943. Eva Saxl, the role played by Miss Massen, was a diabetic, requiring a daily injection of insulin. As restrictions in Shanghai tightened, the supply of insulin dried up completely, even in the black market. Finally, the Saxl supply wTas reduced to 10 small oottles, enough for only 30 injections.

In desperation, Victor Saxl sought the aid of a Chinese chemist, and together they tried to manufacture insulin from materials available in Shanghai. Batch after batch failed, and Eva insulin supply shrank by bottle every three days. But Victor kept the empty bottles filled with water so that Eva could always feel secure in having 10 bottles to fall back on. Her death when the insulin ran out was the time bomb Victor against. Eva discovered the ruse when only one bottle wras left.

But that day a batch of new insulin proved good on its first test. Without waiting for further tests, he gave Eva an injection from it and the time bomb was stopped. Many other diabetics in Shanghai were saved by the same locally-made insulin. Mr. and Mrs.
