child were killed last night The projector caught fire as a comedy film was being shown at a party in the home of Mrs Joseph Desmarteau 70 years old The inflammable film flared up and before the blaze 'was extinguished four members of the party were dead and nine others of the group and four city firemen were burned or injured Carmen Birtz 35 a nephew of Mrs Desmarteau was said by po lice to have operated the motion picture projector They said he told them he was a qualified operator The machine was set up at one end of the room and the pictures shown on a sheet tacked on a wall at the opposite side The room was crowded with people When the film blazed up there was an in stantaneous panic Neighbors heard the screams and then called the fire department Some of the members of the Des
