Eight THE DAILY REPUBLIC, Mitchell, S. D. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1965 Ann Landers Dear Ann Landers: Has anyone ever told you how much men enjoy your column? Well, I'm a man and I do, Tools. 1 don't think you have ever published a letter in defense of ihot-gun marriages, and for good reason.

You certainly can't endorse them, hut I hope you will print my letter. It might give courage and hope to some couples who made a and it might help their parents, too. Our son came to us three years ago and he was terrified. His steady was pregnant. They were barely out of high school.

The kids refused to consider putting the baby up for adoption and waiting to marry later If they were still in love. Reluctantly we agreed to their marriage. Five months later along came a beautiful little boy. The following year they had a precious baby girl. Our son and his wife have done extremely well.

They have a modest home but it is filled with love and joy and genuine happiness. This may be an exceptional ease, Ann, but it does prove that all "must" marriages need not end in disaster. GRAMP Dear Gramp: It IS an exceptional case. Usually the pregnant bride feels trapped and the "drafted" groom feels hooked. Dear Ann Landers: I'm a boy who will be 16 in four weeks. I've been waiting a long time for the big day but now that the big day is almost here I don't know if I really want to go through with it.

am thinking about quitting school and getting a job. My parents are divorced and Mom remarried two years ago. I can't stand her new husband and the feeling is mutual. I've always wanted to be an engineer but it would be a real rough go. Nobody is going to put me through college and I know I can't get a scholarship.

My grades are just fair. It seems like a waste of time to stay in school when could be out making money. A buddy ot mine quit six months ago. He makes $88 a week and has bought himself a car. I'm not asking for advice.

I just want to know what you think. Dear Red: I won't offer any advice but kids who have quit school have told me it was the dumbest move they ever made. Education is your handle on a more productive, more rewarding life. Without it you are a week job may be as far as you'll ever go and as far as you'll de serve to go. How you spend the next two years of your life will deter mine what happens to you in lie next 50 years.

Stay in chool. I promise you'll never egret it. Dear Ann Landers: A man our social group it becom- ng so obnoxious that one day 'm going to explode like a fire- racker and tell him off.
