Armitage split his two games Friday. Career Opportunities Gusluie skipped his own rink out of Edmonton and Meachem joined Dan Petryk of Calgary. "The young guys kind of left on their own. and besides. wasn't sure after knee surgery if 1 was the player to skip another team to the said Armitage.

Five years ago, yeah. 1 didn't need a great team to win a lot of curling games. Now I need a team that's at least as good as the team we're playing." Armitage, who actually has a five-man squad for the Red Deer Super League that includes former world champion Pat Ryan in Lloyd-minster this weekend for a senior mens 'spiel is looking to move on to the senior division next year. Im 49 now and reality being reality, none of us are getting a lot better, said Armitage. I could maybe take another run at (an Alberta mens title) if I thought I could win, but then Im probably not skipping anymore.

I could maybe play some other position on a team that could win. The Armitage foursome dropped a 4-2 decision to Collin Berbers of Edmonton later in the day. Meanwhile, defending champion Mark Johnson of Edmonton rattled off a pair of wins 9 2 over Jeff Reich of Fort McMurray and 8-1 over Calgarys Dean Ross. The Meyers Norris Penny Classic resumed at 8 a.m. today and will conclude with Mondays final at 3 p.m.

The championship rink will claim a cheque for $10,000, with the runner-up foursome getting $6,000. His days of trading shots with the host curlers in the proMiice are numbered, at least at the men's level.

The veteran skip, who underwent knee surgery one year ago. and three quarters of his Red Deer Super League team is competing in the Meyers Norris Penny Men's Classic this weekend, a four day cashspiel that may be one of Armitage's last World Curling Tour events. "Really, 1 haven't tested my knee a lot. I haven't curled in many spiels over the last year," Armitage said Friday, after he and his squad of third Trevor Sparks, second Shaun Meachem and lead Randy Ponich replacing Keith Glover downed John Regnier of Bonnyville 8-3 in the opening draw of the $36,000 event at the Red Deer Curling Centre. I did play in the (mens) zones last year and the knee was just so-so, but that was just 40 days after surgery.

Now its had a year (to heal) and it's had some good days and some bad days. This season Ive only curled about 12 games in the Red Deer and Laeombe super leagues. So the big test is this weekend. Armitage, with Chris Sehille tossing third stones and Meachem and Steve Meadows manning the front end, reached the semifinals of the 2005 provincial championship at Innisfail. He stated at that time that he was hoping to lead a similar team the following season, but the foursome broke up last year as Sehille now with Olympic champion Brad STUDON Electric Controls Inc.
