Oratorical Contest Next Friday Night Track Meet on -Both Central and Benton Will Enter Teama, -Maryville Has Good Team. Special to The News- Press. MARYVILLE, April The entires for the annual Northwest Missouri Inter-High School tract meet in Maryville April closed on Friday. The program will be made up early next week. Prospects are good for a fine meet this year.

Under the new fication there are several more schools enrolled in class A and it la expected that this will make competition for the class A cup keener than for several seasons. The first of the contesta will be Friday night at 8 o'clock in the normal school auditorium, These will be the contests in debate and extemporaneous speaking. The sub-district contests in these events are being held on Saturday, April 20, in seven sub-districts. Saturday morning there will be the preliminary heats in the track events which will need elimination heats, and in the afternoon will come the track meet proper. Contests Saturday Night.

Saturday night at o'clock in the normal auditorium the annual contests in oratory and declamation will be held. The subdistrict preliminaries for these events are also being held Saturday night. The Maryville high school, has the best track team this year that has ever repre vented the school, Interest is keen and a squad of twenty-five men have been working every night several weeks. Only che veteran of last year's team. Ralpo Yehle, 18 school this year.

Yehle, who is holder of the track record in the hop, step and jump, has equaled his own mark of 42 feet 84 inches this year and expects to. better. it in the meet. He has also high jumped 5 feet 4 inchea, lack. ing three-fourths of an inch of equaling the record, and run the 100-yard dash clese to the record time.

Among the pew men Allan and Davenport are showing up well, Allan: in' the Meld events and Davenport in the 200 and' dashes. Maryville will also have a fast relay team this year and are going to show Central a fast race. The Stuppys are scheduled to play in Troy, tomorrow, this being the first out-of-town game this season for the locale, who are again being managed by William Dorrell. SAN FRANCISCO, April 20. -For the first time in the history of California, a mixed jury of men and women returned first degree murder verdict in the superior court here yesterday.
