Several parties and dances were in progress last night and several more were scheduled for to-night. At midnight last night on this side of the river there was considerable rumpus but when thirty six minutes later the hour of mid night was reached in N. Laredo, such a noise and clamor crossed the border that one might have imagined that all Mexico bad congregated along tbe river Rio Grande and were giving vent to their fehlingof joy. Every whisthe in the city started and continued for tbe course of a half or three quarters of an hour. Two large dancing parties were progress last night each rivaling the other.

One was the annual ball of tbe Laredo Social club and the other the New Year Bail in New Laredo at the Casino Laredense. To be in on everything several of the young people from this side went to both. They attended the Laredo Social club dance staying until a late hour and then went across the river to the other ball. The dance is New Laredo starting much later than the one on this side they were able to get the most of both and an entire night of dancing. Old 1909 passed away in a very orderly manner.

There were few scraps reported during tbe night and although some few disobeyed the law be Qreing cannon crackers and revolvers still things might have been much worse and all tbe celebration was apparently very orderly and sane.
