QUEENSBORO JAM MAKES CONNOLLY ASK NEW BRIDGE Wants 34th St. Ferry Reopened, While New Span Is Built He Writes Estimate Board. Borough President Connolly has written to the Board of Estimate and to William Wirt Mills, Commissioner of Plant and Structures, requesting that a bridge connecting the Borough of Queens Manhattan be erected at the earliest possible date to relieve congestion on the Queensboro Bridge. The Borough President requests that, pending determination as to the construction of the bridge and to afford immediate relief, the Thirtyfourth Street Ferry, abondoned by the Long Island Railroad, be reopened and operated by the city. Mr.

Connolly points out that Queensboro Bridge is so congested that at certain hours it is practically useless and that at all times it is exceptionally dangerous. Accidents are frequent and many persons have been killed. Mr. Connolly also says manufacturers are leaving the Borough of Queens because of the great difficulty in going to and from their factories by way of Queensboro Bridge. The City of New York is the owner of the piers on the New York side at Thirty-fourth street, Mr.

Connolly states, and he asserts the city easily could purchase the land at the foot of Seventh street, in Long Island City for ferry slips.
