Saturday, Dec. 9, 1961 THf Changes In'62 Grain Program Are Announced Changes in the 1962 Peed Grain Program were announced Friday by Clyde Puetz, chairman of the Davison County Agricultural stabilization and Conservation Committee, Under the Feed Grain Program, sweet were not counted as a feed grain crop but the 1962 program provides that sweet sorghums used (or silage will be considered as grain r- ghum, Puetz explained. The 1962 Feed Grain Program provides that county committees may include the 1959-60 acreage of sweet sorghums used for iilage when establishing the 1962 farm feed grain base. Farmers tod ranchers participating in the '62 program will receive payments ftt the grain sorghum rate for the (arm for the diversion from the 1962 base.

Because of the change from the 1961 program, Puete and the other members of the county committee urge each farmer and rancher planning to plant sorghums to contact the county ASCS office or the county agent for additional information. Postmaster T. Will reported that letter cancellations (outgoing letters) for the first seven days of December ran 17,300 ahead of the same period a year ago. Cancellations trhough Thursday night totaled 84,000 an average of 14,000 per day.

Sioux Falls Boy Gets Suspended Prison Sentence Darwin Tuenge, 16, Sioux Falls, has received a suspended two-year sentence to the reformatory section of the state penitentiary for a burglary at Mt. Vernon. Tuenge appeared before Circuit Judge Fred J. Nichol Wednesday in Davison County Circuit Court and pleaded guilty to a charge of burglary In the third degree. The Sioux Falls youth was the last of four boys sentenced for a breakin on Oct.

2 at the Recreation Parlor in Mt. Vernon. Judge Nichol susp ded Tuenge's sentence on condition he be placed in the custody of his parents at Lennox, pursue ou t- patient psychiatric treatment and return to school. The three other youths involved in the breakin were sentenced by Judge Nichol on Oct. 10.

Ronald Wolf, 16, Sioux Falls, was sentenced to two years in the reformatory section of the penitentiary. Jerry Mossefin, 15, Si Falls, and Dick Larson, 15, Watertown, received similar sentences but each was suspended on condition the boys be returned to the state training school, Davison County States Attorney A. H. Shuster prosecuted the cases. 5:30 p.m.

Starting on Monday, both the parcel post and general delivery windows will remain open weekdays from 8:30 a.m., until 5:30 p.m. A special rack with sacks labeled "Air and "Mitchell" will be placed In the post office lobby for convenience of mailers. Mitchell Jaycees To Begin Survey Of City's Needs A 12-questdon survey, designed to pinpoint Mitchell's major problems and needs for improvement, will start in Mitchell next week. The 1961 Mitchell Jaycees Community Development Survey, according to Dick Ricci, survey chairman, will serve as a stepping stone for the Jaycees to determine! which problems its organization is best equipped to try to solve. The survey folders will be distributed next week by members of the Jaycees and also may be picked up after Wednesday at any of the following business firms: Commercial Trust and Savings Bank.

Mitchell National Bank, Randalls Super Valu, Blue Bell IGA Foodltner, National Food Store, Red Owl. Piggly Wiggly, Gambles and Montgomery Wards. The questionnaire will query citizens as to their opinion of a possible family-type recreation center for Mitchell, school reorganization for Davison County's rural schools, a public swimming pool and the Park and Shop parking lots. The survey, Ricci commented, also will attempt to determ i whether the public feels Mitchell has adequate street markin school buildings, recreational and parking facilities, in addition to giving each indvdual an opportunity to list his or her personal likes or dislikes of the community, and any suggestions they might have to improve the city. In Mitchell he appeared before Circuit Judge Walter Seacat. I Pierre he was to have been tried by jury before Circuit Judge Fred R. Winans.

Previous to trial he had been released on his own recognizance, without bond. A misleading item was reported in the local columns. Each day one of the staff from here calls both hospitals for reports of births Tourist Advisory Council Meeting Slated In City PD2RRE on Committees have November, according to the monthly arrest report of the department. The November total represented an increase of 29 over the 81 ar rests In the October total. Overtime parking and dou 1 parking violators headed the ar sheet with 23 and 18 arrests, ollowed closely by school stop ight violators, 15, blocking a driveway, 16, and public intoxication, 13.

Other violations and the number of persons ticketed or arrested were speeding, 9, no driver's permit in possession, 4, parking in a restricted area, driving with an inadequate muffler, going through a stop sign, improper parking and blocking a sidewalk, two viola- ions each, and forgery and broken seal, one count each. Collections during the month totaled $3,792.58 $114.27 less than the $3,906.85 collected in October. A breakdown of the total showed 12,180.50 in meter collections, $89t 08 in box collections and $721 paid in fines. and Spearfish to continue workshops of the South Dakota Tourist Advisory Council. MITCHELL MASTER COMMISSION PLAN By ROGER W. BALDWIN For Wheat, Barley Programs Three wheat and two barl signups for participation in the 1962 feed grain program were made with the Davison County ASCS office by the Dec. 1 deadline. The signup and deadline at this time is for those eligible small grains planted this fall. There will be another signup period nest spring for the spring-planted eligible grains.

Mrs. C. J. Weiland, office manager for the ASC office in Mitchell, said the three wheat farms signed 40 acres into the program while the barley farmers pledged 55.2 acres. There are 217 farms in Davison County which have wheat allotments 72 which have barley and deaths.

Early last week one hospital reported birth of a seven-pound, nine-ounce daughter to Mr. and Mrs. DeLaus Creamer of Chamberlain. Now they did NOT say the baby was born at the hospital but one would assume that to be the case. However, from a reliable source we have learned that the baby was born healthy and happy, not in the hospital at all, but in a car on the way to the hospital.

Officiating at the delivery of the child was the father. I have often wondered how I i would do if faced with a similar situation. Here is one father who, evidently, did okay. "Chief Master Sergeant Edward L. Miles distinguis himself by meritorious service demonstrated exceptional initiative, untiring efforts and a great sense of responsibility while monitoring command weapons system support functions.

His outstanding knowledge of requirements and procedures contributed immensely to the excellent state of readiness throughout the 7th Air Division. The astute guidance, industriousness and perseverance displayed by Sgt. Miles reflect great credit upon himself, the Strategic Air Command and the United States." This was the citation which accompanied the presentation of the Air Force Commendation Med a 1 to Sgt. Miles at Ellsworth AFB. Rapid City.

This award was based on i service in England where he was stationed before returning to states. Sgt. Miles is a brother of Mrs. Louise Nicolls, Mitchell. The Mitchell chief of police has received an urgent request to aid in locating Ann Marie Burr.

Ann Marie, now nine, was born and lived at Tacoma, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Burr, when she disappeared on Aug. 31, 1961. She was born 12-14-52 and at the time of her disappearance was 4-2 tall, weighed about 55 pounds.

She was of medium build, had hazel eyes and straight blonde hair. During the week when a little girl was accidentally hit by a car near Litchfield school, a a er came to the newsroom and wanted to know who was hurt. His own daughter attended Litchfield School, and he was not satisfied about his own child until we were able to tell him the name of the girl. DEC. 4 Alice Petersdorf obtained a permit to build an addition to a residence at 1310 East Second Avenue. The work is to be completed by April 1, 1962, at an estimated cost of $6,000. A permit to remodel a moved-in building at 531 South Burr was Issued to Ernest Rumbolz with the work to be completed at an approximate cost of $400 by Jan. 2, 1962.

DEC. 5 A permit was issued to the J. F. Anderson Lumber Company erect a two-bedroom i ence with an attached garage at 1506 East Second Avenue. The job is to be finished by July 1, 1962, at a cost of $9,000.

J. F. Anderson Lumber Company obtained a permit to build a house at 1521 East Third Avenue with the work to be completed at an estimated cost of $10,000 by July 1, 1962. Tracy. The work is to be finished by Dec. 15 at a cost of about $200. DEC. 7 Fullerton Lumber Company was issued a permit to construct a residence at 1410 East Fourth Avenue, with the Job to be completed by April 1, 1962, at an approximate cost of $11,000.

Fred Mueller, Menno, a $5 bond on a school stop sign violation. Mueller was arrest on Pec. 7 and Miss Vander Heiden was ticketed on Dec.
