Admission 85c Children 35c Box Seats 81.35 (Ineleding Tar) MUST ABIDE BY RULING LEAGUE PREXY REVEALS By PETE BUSSER (Intell Sports Writer) The Lancaster Red Roses as well as every club in organized baseball, will have to abide by the very controversial "glove on field" rule or face disciplinary action, Frank Summers, president of the Piedmont League revealed last night from his home in Staunton, Va. Summers received telegrams from both Commissioner Ford C. Frick and George M.

Trautman, president of the National Association (minor leagues) in which both officials announced that the rule would be strictly enforced. Frank Spair, business manager of the Roses, as well as the seven other club owners or operators in the Piedmont League had been polled on the subject by Summers but the results of the poll mean little in light of the Frick edict. The rule was placed on the books last year when the rules committee met. provides that players leaving their defensive positions for their inning at bat shall remove all gloves and equipment from the playing field. BOOSTER COMMITTEE TO MEET RED ROSES TODAY Members of the Mayor's Baseball Booster Committee will meet members of the Red Roses and Manager Kemp Wicker at a special session at the ball park this Business Spair said players will be introduced to committee members at 2 p.m., prior to leaving for Reading.

"I feel that players are used to leaving their the field and its been in baseball for so long that its ridiculous to change it now. A batted ball maybe only hits a glove once a year," Spair said. Meanwhile, Manager Kemp Wicker and the Roses spent a dreary, damp day here yesterday. The team was scheduled a workout at Stumpf Field but were forced indoors the rain. The day was spent" in looking over the ballpark facilities and the issuing of equipment.

The players then passed the day window shopping and talking baseball on downtown street corners. Tonight, they travel to Reading for an exhibition game with the Reading Indians of the Eastern League. Some Lancaster fans are expected to make the short jaunt to watch the tilt at Reading's Memorial Field. However, most local fans wait tomorrow when the Roses take to Stumpf Field against the same Indians. Game time tomorrow is 2 p.m.

Two more exhibition games follow next week after which the Roses open their Piedmont League campaign at York, Thursday. Lancaster's home inaugural is Friday with the White Roses as opponents. Reading's roster is liberally sprinkled with stars from the and clubs in the Cleveland farm system. In addition, Merrill (Pinky) May, Reading pilot, has three men back from last year's club that captured the pennant. The three 1953 vets are Outfielder Rod Graber, Catcher Earl Averill and Pitcher Floyd Penfold.

Ward weighed 158, Johnson The 23-year-old father of four lost the first three rounds and then came from behind with a fierce and furious attack the fourth round to drop the muscular Detroit auto worker. The bell saved Ward, who was a 6-5 favorite win this telecast ten rounder St. Nicholas Arena. In the Afth the wiry Floridaborn Johnson staggered his solidly built opponent repeatedly with smashing rights to the jaw.

After Johnson connected with three rights flush on the jaw, Referee Pete Scalzo stopped the bout. It was a bristling, bruising and almost clinchless battle all the way. Ward, a strong, fast to have edges in punching, 21-year-old, appeared the first three rounds with his rapid-fire combinations to the head and body. It was Ward's hard rights to the body which proved to be the difference through the first three frames. In the fourth Johnson suddenly nailed Ward with a right to the jaw that shook Moses all over.

Johnson punched his foe to the ropes and then for a full minute rained over 60 punches to Ward's head and body. The Detroiter finally got away from the ropes but was nailed again by a right and then two more which him to the can- vas. Student Body Asks Return To Grid Big Time A's, Looking For An Outfielder, Deny Chicago Story CHICAGO, April 16 (P)- The Chicago Tribune said tonight that the Chicago White Sox are in the process of offering $150,000 to the Philadelphia Athletics for outfielder Gus Zernial. A Tribune baseball writer, Edward Burns, said in a story from Cleveland, that Sox general manager Frank Lane may complete the deal "in time to restore Zernial in left field for the Sox in Detroit Monday and Burns said Lane is in Boston now to see Athletics officials. The A's play the Red Sox there tomorrow. The Sox play the Indians in Cleveland tomorrow. Zernial, 30, is a former Sox outfielder and traded to the A's in 1951 in Math three-way swap with the Cleveland Indians.

Minnie Minoso, ace outfielder-third baseman, came to Chicago in the deal. Zernial hit 43. home runs and drove in 108 runs last season. The Sox admittedly are in need of a power of his caliber. In three straight American League losses they've made only one extra-base triple by Minoso.

In Philadelphia, Roy Mack, executive vice president of the Athletics, said Lane has been trying to get Zernial for some time. He said Philadelphia is looking for another outfielder and isn't interested in getting rid of one. RED WINGS WIN NHL STANLEY CUP DETROIT. April 16 (P--The Detroit Red Wings won the Stanley Cup playoffs tonight when Tony Leswick fired a 40-foot screen shot in a "sudden death" overtime for a 2-1 victory the Montreal Canadiens before 15,791 largest and probably noisiest crowd ever to see a hockey game in Olympia Stadium. Leswick's dramatic goal came with lightning suddenness at the 4:29 mark and smashed the comeback hopes of the defending champion Canadiens.

The editorial said last season's football team had a deficit of 750. It suggested better football teams would result in bigger crowds and that there would no deficits. Dr.

Warner admitted, the figcorrect is satisfied with the "small time" up whereby Tech been playing smaller district schools the most part. Tech has fielded football teams 44 seasons and in 1928 the Pittsburgh team defeated the late Knute Rockne's Notre Dame eleven 27-7. In 1939 the Tartans were Eastern champs and holders of the Lambert Trophy. When Tech de-emphasized, school officials indicated they were more interested in providing good educational facilities in a "big time" winning attitude. There has been nothing to change that attitude, Dr.
