Legislation Backed For Eligibility lit Rent Exemptions Canarsie Senator Howard E. security and SSI payments. vacancies declining these effects Babbush is co-sponsor of legislation which will prevent payments received from social security and supplemental security income (SSI) from being included in senior citizens' income calculations when determining rent increase exemptions. "We all know that inflation is felt most acutely by individuals who are forced to live on fixed incomes," said the Senator. "In New York City, where housing rentals are skyrocketing and are more severe.

When the legislature enacted the senior citizens' rent increase exemption, some of the worst financial problems faced by the elderly were alleviated. "Unfortunately this worthy program has not kept pace with inflation," Senator Babbush said. "The original, minimal income levels which were enacted in 1975 have not been increased despite several increases to seniors' incomes in the form of social By excluding the monies received from social security and SSI in calculating income, a more equitable formula by which to determine rent levels can be established. The Canarsie Democrat explained that this legislation will preserve the integrity and the viability of the rent exemption program by allowing the seniors it was originally designed for to continue to benefit. Keep Canarsie Clean! Change in the rock music industry happens every minute of the day.

As a person involved in the industry, I notice changing processes in the form of places, personalities and price. A few weeks ago-one of my favorite record company publicists was laid off from her position at the biggest record company in the country. My favorite rock club, Privates was closed due to community pressure. The Malibu rock club which was closest to my home has closed for many months. Friends who are involved with the business leave the industry or lose their jobs.

One tries to make new friends and contacts in the music section but being a writer has its drawbacks as well. One major rock club on Long Island still does not believe I am a professional critic even though I have given them copies of my column as proof. In NYC, I find myself totally accepted by the people in charge and I am treated both like a friend and a professional. 9 Ci20 tr'V A ro i 647 EAST 82nd ST. QLSWWOOD RD.

Now, according to that same paper the Savoy Theater is closing. The Peppermint is still in business and has installed a new sprinkler system to assist and cooperate with fire department codes. The Savoy has seen some sparce audiences recently and although I think it is the most modern looking of the current rock clubs, its schedule is limited for the near future. But as a writer I know that bookings are slow and few groups are touring.

The Peppermint Lunge may not generally feature my type of mainstream rock and roll. But club associate (and Hewlett High School friend) Tom Goodkind and I agreed that it has provided a showcase for such superstar talent as Joan Jett and the Go-Go's. I only wish the best for any and all rock clubs because they serve a need for fans to go out. But what with the closing of Heat, Privates, Max's Kansas City, Hurrah, The Cavern and Irving Plaza who knows what tomorrow may bring. The bill was sponsored by Brooklyn Council Members Leon Katz, Mary Pinkett, Susan Alter, Theodore Silverman and five others at the Mayor's request. It was voted out of the Council Committee on Governmental Angela Bofill At Westbury Music Fair March 19 Thru 2 Beautiful Angela Bofill who already has been compared with many of the outstanding female pop sings, past and present, will appear in person and in concert at the Westbury Music Fair, Westbury, L.I., March 19-21.

Katz said the measure gives property owners who enter into installment agreements with the city up to eight years to pay back taxes doubling the amount of time presently allowed. It also reduces the amount of down payment required by the city, from 20 to 15 percent of taxes owed, and gives a special break to non-profit housing corporations and property owners occupying housing of fewer than five units. Under the Council bill, these two categories could enter into installment agreements with the city offering up to 12 years to pay back taxes, with a 10 percent down payment requirement. The Brooklyn legislator noted that the bill was amended in committee to ensure that tenants are notified when their landlord enters into an installment agreement; and he added that the bill requires property owners to pay all outstanding liens owed to the city both those incurred because of code violations and due to city management of property before entering into an agreement.
