the early days of 1 Oklahoma history before state matured frost 'should eomsbei fore it is matured enough to make grain it can be used for other feed as poughage Never before was there such large fields of tur nips sown as this fall The crop 'be used feed as well as for home Many farm wives are utilizing the tops of the turnips for greens and a large number of quarts of greens are being canned The sorghum indus try has begun to pick up as sev eral fields are ready to go to the mills One farmer has already started his in operation and turned out several gallons of sorghum last week The millet and pea hay crop is fine and is being cut and hauled in A splendid crop of crajigrass has come on in some fields and is being prepared inihe usual way for feed The corn fod der that was cut and shocked earlier in the fall seems to be and does not have much strength or nutrition to it btit the old stand by is what the farmers will miss the most and need the worst A few farmers on this side are lucky enough to have some wheat and oats' to supply the most of their grain needs but it takes corn to fatten hogs Wood cutting and post making also some mining ties and saw logs are being made as a go between job for those who are only working part time at the mines and those who have a four day budget for the ERA work Men with large families and no crop are wondering what the future holds for them as it is so hard to make the grade now with good weather and when snow flies the inadequate clothing and food supplies will mean a lot Wheat is looking fine and that which was sown early is large enough to wave i over the fields and is providing plenty of good pasture Green beans mangoes and cucumbers are very plentiful at this time Green tomatoes are being used to make the usual fall relishes These have also grown since the late rains came Cows that are on the late pastures of wheat and also aided by good dairy feed are giving a good flow of milk Cane hay is growing It is one of the most backward crops of the fall and everything else has gone off and left it but it will make an abundance of succulent feed if it can escape the frost Most all the farmers have disposed of all their surplus stock and cut down in order to have plenty of feed for what they really need to put through the winter for future use and production Any number of farmers are only keeping one brood sow two or three milk cows and perhaps one team of work animals Quilting and Luncheon Mrs Mollie ord entertained with a quilting and covered dish i luncheon riday A delicious dinner Was enjoyed Chatting and quilting were the principal ver sions of the day Those present in cluded: Mrs Don Maupin Mrs Jay Smith and Mrs Gene Phelps of Miami Mrs Joe Wilson of Tul If you have children who are occasionally
