WELCH NEWS Couftty Road Work A delegation from I Golden" Rod district conferred with 'the town ship board at their meeting last week and asked that the board give some attention to the matter of bitter roads in that district as there had been very little work done since1 the storms in January which placed some of its limestone black land districts in an almost impassable condition The town ship board has a great deal of work ahead of it in every portion of the field in northeast Craig county including the Neosho val ley which is also reported needing work badly They will divide the available funds so that all of these districts will get some work or at least enough to get by with until the first of July when the next highway money is available i 7 Change of Telephone Poles Work began last week in a small way toward resetting the telephone poles all over Welch in connection with the proposed changes to be made by Manager Noe The poles on the north and south streets will be moved to the alleys throughout the city and the east and west lines will be set out in the streets farther from the prop erty lines in order to avoid get ting the wires tangled with the shade trees as in the past Mr Noe will also install new wires and considerable new cable The home of the telephone office will be lo cated in the former Durall home' on North Main street just off of Main street about a half block This property was bought by Mr Noe a short time ago and will be transformed into a central office with living quarters for Mr and Mrs Clarence Noe who will attend to the night side after the building has been remodeled for the new purpose The lot and buildings at the rear will be utiliz ed as storage quarters for equip ment and garages for the cars and trucks In the change there will be but very little interruption with the service as everything will be in readiness to switch the service after Jhe installation of the new service Mr Noe has made a grejt many changes for the betterment of the Welch and Bluejacket phone systems which he purchased over a year ago and will make many more changes in the interest of id Stant service as he has the oppor tunity Establishing a Route The Kraft cheese factory of Os wego Kas has sent a plat of its proposed milk route in north Craig county to the farmers supposed to be interested and has requested that interested milk producers give an approximate idea aS to the bus iness that can be expected from the district proposed The route enters Oklahoma at the state line on Highway 73 turns west two miles north of the base line into ields district thence south through East Anthracite district to Highway 73 west of Welch thence east into Welch rom Welch the route goes three miles north on 73 thence into Banner and airview districts oh routes to be establish ed wherever the greater milk sup ply can be Obtained One truck will start the service and more will be added as the conditions can be learned after the start Each route will be 60 miles long Welch Defeats Picher In the Northeast Oklahoma high school debating contests Welch defeated Picher riday evening at the Welch school auditorium by unanimous decision of the
