Gl Subdivision Plan Proposed Real Estate Dealer Soys Veterans Would Be Good Neighbors . ST. LOUIS', Mar.-20. (UP)—The Aiwlo Apartments';or:the Belgian Bulge Annex might seem like odd names for.living quarters to : some folks. But n St. Louis man.' Walter Livengood, thinks Gl subdivisions in our. big "cities might be just the thing after the war. Appropriately chough, Livengood .'has dedicated his. life to real estate development. And: he suggests that one way to help soldiers settle down quickly after the war is to let them live together, as neighbors. Llvcngood srtys his idea lias caught on rapidly, so quickly lie's swamped with applications for homes in his unique residential district. Mori! than half of 50 projected home sites have been spoken for, and he's setting to work,on what, lie cnlls another "servicemen's sanctum." -And Livengood makes it easy for Gl Joe to buy In on his proposition. The returning'soldier need only go to one office, and, within a few hours, he's all finished with plans for his honse=-a spic and span modern residence, .financed under 'the Gl Bill of Rights. Livengood says he found that contracting for single homes for servicemen made the projects too expensive. But, by mass-producing his 50 ranch-type, five room houses, he'll be, able to get the houses, together with a nice plot of ground, down to about $9,000. With garage it's a little more. LivenKood says he can just sec whal'lt be happening In another 10 years or so. Of a Saturday afternoon the Berlin Bombers will be playing the Coblcnz Comets for the championship. The dads will be In the stands, one eye on the game, but arguing, once again, whether a leave in Paris was better tlinn one in Rome. It may tc painted with casein, plastic, oil or varnish points. Before the board is painted with oil or varnish paints however, it should be sized. Heady mixed sixes may be obtained, or (he home owner can make his own by dissolving one and one-hnlf pounds High Density Are You Sick Of Your Kitchen? CHICAGO (UP)-Divcllings, if built to Insure adequate sunlight arid space between building, can be healthful even in densities of 15.000 persons per square mile, according to Ludwig HHiicrsclmci, professor of city planning at I' nols Institute of Technology, in Ills book, "The Now City." .Density itself, ho asserts, unless xf<'"!r!e, is not responsible for unhygienic housing conditions, if Hroper planning Is done when new homes arc built. Prof. HilberseiiHer recommends the use of L-shaped houses and the alternation of npnrlmotil buildings with one-family, one-story houses, to meet .the minimum health needs of sunlight and space. He suggests further that long, deep lols found In most cities should be replaced with square or nearly square lols, thus utilizing space now wasted at the back of lots. "The apartment house thus can be free-standing," the author con- lends, "nnd the apartment dweller can have a view over gardens." He notes that southwest and southeast orientations are to IM preferred, so thai, n bedroom receives sunshine from the southwest. He stressed Hint density '-. neither necessary nor desirable, and that housing units planned for single families may not safely .hold larger numbers. Heavy Pressure Weds Asbestos and Cement Asbestos building materials are manufactured by combining asbestos fibers with portlimd cement under tremendous pressure. The usu:,l proportions are S5 per cent cement and IS per cent asbestos fillers. Receives Discharge John Burnctte of Blythevllle. a veteran of livo years service with the Army, 17 months of which'were spent in New Guinea, received nn honorable medical discharge on Peb 26. He now hns returned here to make liis home. of chip or flnke glue In n gallon of soiling water. Best results are obtained if the surface of the board is lightly sanded after the size coal has tliovouehly drieii. Water base plastic, paint, unless excessively alkaline, can be'applied directly to un- sized Insulatlii',' board. Oil base plastic paints should be applied over a sizing coat.
