Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) agreed to grant $467,513 to the station for purchase of equipment. The state Board of Educational Finance allotted $90, IKK) for the first half-year operations and for first full year operations. STAFF DEVELOPS The new station began to emerge last fall as professional staff members were brought and student training sessions began.

Miss Bailey heads the eight-man professional staff, and technical responsibilities are under James Doiron, chief engineer. The staff also includes seven salaried students working parttime. Beginning students will use the black and white studio, and approximately 35 advanced students will spend class periods working in the color station. Thousands of additional viewers will be reached through cable television. Negotiations are underway with companies in lais Cruces, El Paso, Alamogordo, Bayard, Carlsbad, Cloudcroft, Doming, Hatch, Lordsburg, Truth or Consequences, Ruidoso, Silver City and Tularosa. The station will be carried by cable companies in all of the cities that are able to receive transmissions. A public television station that could serve as an experimental learning laboratory for journalism students has long been a dream ol Jacobs.
