Lyle Engelhardt and Lyledene were at Dubuque Thursday evening attending the wedding of her brother, Verni Kamps, to Miss Irene Haley of Dubuque. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Breitsprecher and Mr. and Mrs.

Arthur H. Berg enjoyed the chicken dinner served by the Clayton Center Lutheran Ladies' Aid Society Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Bonker and daughter, Margaret, of Manly spent Thursday with Mr.

and Mrs. Arthur Berg, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Overbeck and Miss Caroline Overbeck. Sunday evening, December 10, has been chosen as the time by the Luther League for giving their play, "Aunt Minnie From Minnesota," at the opera house.

Bert Jones of Burlington, North visited Wednesday evening with their daughter and niece, Mrs. Darwin Brown, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Harman Hamm and sons, Keith and Kerry, of Sixteen were supper guests of Mr.

and Mrs. Darwin Brown and James Thursday, and overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Larson and Bobby. Mrs.

Roy Brown and daughters, Betty June and Rose, spent Sunday in the home of Grandpa and Grandma Wilkins on Irish Ridge. Grandpa Wil kins has been quite sick but seems to be slowly improving. Leslie and Ben Dale Pedersen were among those attending the Iowa-Minnesota football game at Iowa City Saturday and. also spent several hours with their mother, Mrs. S.

Pedersen at the Oakdale sanitarium. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hanson and Loren and Lois of Williamsburg, Mr. and Mrs.

Will Schwitzer and Lois and Gertrude, and Mr. Scholl of Rudd were Sunday visitors of Grandma Krambeer and Mrs. Minnie Collins and family. Mrs. Ray Brown, with her sister- in-law, Mrs.

Leo Wilkins, of Harpers Ferry, spent Friday at Prairie du Chien, to visit Mrs. Brown's sister, Mrs. Henry Adney, who recently submitted to an operation at the sanitarium. Walter Pfeffer, a student of the Wartburg college, Dubuque, filled the pulpit at the Lutheran church Sunday Rev. Adix and wife were at Dubuque where Rev.

Adix spoke at a children's mission rally at the St. John's Lutheran church. Irene Jones and Robert Benzing are being honored at a parcel shower Thursday evening, November 23, at the Monona City Hall. Irene Jones will be remembered here as a sister of Mrs. Darwin Brown, who was a pupil in our schools a few years ago.

Messrs. Pfeffer and Burrock of Dubuque, Miss Fleihler of Strawberry Point, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Zieman and Curtis and Phyllis, Mr. and Mrs.

Herman Baade, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Palas and son were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Baade.

Mrs. Farnham of Monona gave a dramatic sermon in the Methodist church: Sunday afternoon which was much appreciated by all present. Her husband, Rev. Farnham, with M. E.

Smith and Donald Lamborn, attended the Methodist men's mass meeting at Waukon. Former friends and neighbors were pleased to meet Mrs. Augusta Rolland and daughter, Mrs. Cunningham, of Monona at the afternoon services in the Methodist church Sunday. They also visited with Grandma Schultz and the Ben Overbeck family before returning to their homes.

1 Don McShane, who left Luana about a month ago, returned this week to. his duties at the Luana Savings Bank Mr. McShane spent a month in a bank at Earlham, near Des Moines. He will assist C. Adrian Riveland, cashier of the Luana bank.

Mi's. Elsie Kamps Hensen and oldest son, Dwight, of Pinewood, re turned to their home Saturday, having spent Friday and Saturday in the home of her Mrs. Lyle Engelhardt, and with other relatives. They also attended the wedding of her brother, Verni Kamps, at Dubuque Thursday evening. Mrs.

Sophia Meyer, Mr. and Mrs, Henry Heusman and little grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pixler and Glen, of Postville; Mrs. Hazel Schrader and her sons, Bernard and Louis of Clermont: Mr.

and Mrs. John Engelhardt, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Engelhardt, Mr. and Mrs.

Arno Engelhardt and family of Monona, and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Engelhardt were 6:30 o'clock picnic supper guests in the Mr. and Mrs. Louis Engelhardt home Sunday.

The evening was spent in playing Chinese checkers and Five Hundred. The Hi-Spy Primary Grades. Mrs. Eldo Schrader visited in our room Monday afternoon. We have extended our study of transportation from trains to boats.

We are making a ferry boat in our room. The first graders enjoy reading out of their new books very much. They also like to work in their new work books. We enjoy, the new slide very much. We spend every possible minute play ing on it.

Third and Fourth Grades. The third grade read the story of "Tippy Elephant's Hat." They chose boys and girls for the characters in the story and dramatized it. We have been reading about Indian clothing and we have started making Indian head-dresses, dresses, blankets, and rugs. The following boys and girls have received an A in spelling for the past six weeks: Phyllis Lamker, Marilyn Backhaus, Romandus Gisleson, and Marlow Gisleson. Fifth and Sixth Grades.

This week being another test week, we spent a good share of our time reviewing the material we have covered this six weeks and taking tests. We are happy to have four fifth graders get perfect spelling test papers on the one hundred words in our test. The following girls received A's: Shirley Hinman, Fara Wayne Kliefoth, Margery Thoma and Marilyn Wagner. We are sorry that none in the sixth grade had perfect papers. Seventh Grade News.

We have been taking our tests this week and are glad they are all done till next six weeks. Freshman News. We are planning to add some more plants to our aquarium in Science so that we will have a balanced life. In English we are dealing with the different moods of verbs, such as the Imparative and Indicative. With our chapter on eggs, we have had some cooking lessons, in Home Economics.

We made creamed eggs and eggs a la goldenrod, one day last week. They turned out to be very appetizing and delicious. Neither absent nor tardy during the first 12 weeks were Erma Jean Schultz, Margaret Mae Collins, Rita Gentz, Iva nelle Lenth, Reid Schultz, Laura Walch, Carlton Collins, Ruby Miene, Betty Neverman. Seventh and eighth grades: Betty Brown, Judith Thoma. Phyllis Zieman, Ivyle Burt, Eunice Doerring, Darlene Kliefoth, D'Elda Mae Palas, Dariene Schrader.

Sophomore News. In World History we have been re viewing for our six weeks tests. In English- we are also reviewing for a test. We had our oral reports. In Geometry we are reviewing all problems we have done recently for our test.

These problems also use al gebra as well as geometry. The Home Making girls have taken their test and thought it very difficult. We don't know as much about breads and cakes as we thought we did. Junior-Senior News. In Bookkeeping we have been taking several short tests and reviewing for tests.

In typing we have been learning the dollar sign, the number sign, the per cent sign, the cent sign and eral others. Friday Miss Hershberger gave us directions and after we carried them out she informed us that we had taken our first speed test. As a whole, they were not so bad. It was a one minute tost and the highest rate was 27 words, made by Ivanelle. In English Literature we have been giving reports from our Readers Digest and book reports.

Through The Keyhole. Gerald Herbert Palas was born near Luana, May 20, 1926. His favorites are Hobby, collecting match books; movie star, Tyrone Power; food, fruit salad; friend, Carlton song, "Man With The Mandolin." The senior girls are improving their posture by walking around during the noon hour balancing biology books on their top curls. Nell Spnun. Mrs. Nell Spaun celebrated her birthday anniversary Tuesday afternoon when a few friends dropped in to spend the afternoon. A lunch was served from the baskets brought by the guests, and a very delightful afternoon was spent. Those attending the party were Mrs.

Tillie Brouillet, Helen Kautman, Anna Brouillet, Sarah Miller, Gerine Hughes, Dora Mnnthey, Jessie Meikle, Grandma Hilmer and Letta Padden. CHURCH NEWS A large crowd attended the Willing Workers meeting, held in the church dining room on Thursday afternoon. This was a business meeting and the old officers were all reelected for the coming year: president, Mrs. Mabel Waters; vice president, Mrs. E.

R. Birdsell; secretary, Mrs. Alvin Walby; treasurer, Mrs. Lynn Crawford. A luncheon was served following the election of officers.

The Willing Workers will hold a bazaar in the Community room of the church here Friday afternoon. A cafeteria dinner will be served starting at noon and continuing on through the afternoon. Sale starts at 2:30 in the afternoon. BETHEL Fred Segrist was a caller in Monona Monday. Will Lawson accompanied Mr.

and Mrs. Mike Webber to Cedar Rapids last Sunday for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Segrist visited at the home of Mr.

and Mrs. George Ewing Monday evening. The 4-H Club met at the home of Barbara Brainard last Saturday afternoon with nine members present. Mr. and Mrs.

Will Buerger and family spent Friday evening at the Mr. and Mrs. Herman Nuehring home. Mrs. Fred Lawson and Mrs.

Guy Barr were Wednesday visitors in the Mr. and Mrs. Julius Krousie home. Mr. and Mrs.

Larry Ewing and fam ily were Sunday dinner guests in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Segrist. Mr. and Mrs.

Frank and James Cahalan watched Iowa beat Minnesota 13 to 9 at Iowa City Saturday. Mrs.

Ambrose Waters was hostess to the Prosperous Ridge club at her home Thursday afternoon. The Home Garden club was en tertained by Mrs. Harley Radloff at an all-day meeting Thursday. Bernard, Leo and Dick Cahalan came from Cedar Rapids Saturday evening to visit relatives in this vicinity. A large crowd was in attendance at the program put on by Lillian Meier and pupils at Springfield school Friday evening.

The Farm Bureau drive for Clayton county was in full progress in Grand Meadow from Wednesday until Saturday noon. Several from here attended the school program in Grand Meadow No. i Wednesday evening, sponsored by Ellen Nuehring and pupils. Rose Marie Brewer and Lorayne Jacobia were among the Postville high school students who watched Iowa defeat Minnesota Saturday. Mrs.

Frank Cahalan and Elizabeth spent Saturday at Cedar Rapids visiting relatives and shopping. Mrs. Cahalan was awarded a basket of groceries at the Quaker Oats factory that afternoon. Mildred Brewer and Jeanne Moon attended a teachers meeting at the Decorah court house Saturday afternoon and remained for the annual Winneshiek county teachers banquet that evening. I SCHOOL NEWS.

Primary Notes. The following people received A's in spelling this week: Randal Russett, Charlotte Bennett, Margaret Ann Stegen, Jerry Hager, Mary Ann Kautman, Lyle Willman and Alan Russett. In art class we have been making Thanksgiving posters. Tipper Grades. We are all reserving a space in a notebook for unfamiliar words and their meanings as we meet them in our daily work.

Those who had 100 in spelling Friday were: Marie Grotegut, Betty Kneeskern, Alice Hilmer, Betty Hager, Duane Halverson and Cloy Kneeskern. High School Notes. The play "Huckleberry Finn" will be given Friday evening, December 8. The geometry class has completed the study of parallel lines and is taking up the angles of a triangle. In biology we have finished dissecting grasshoppers and at present are working on bees, moths, ants and flies.

We are becoming accustomed to the odor of preserving fluid and enjoy dissection work more than at first. We have started a desert terrarium and have a horned toad. Later we hope to get some cacti and other plants. Volleyball has taken the place of basketball on the play ground. Some of the students are staying after school to play.

"Merlin Duane" is the name given the baby son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Russett. Mrs. Stella Barkley of Janesville, is visiting her sister, Mrs.

Dan Higgins in FrankviUe. Dan Higgins is very ill at the Decorah hospital where he submitted to an operation Wednesday. Mrs. Spencer Burnham of Janesville, arrived Sunday and is a guest in the Dan Higgins home. Emmet Schroeder returned to the hospital at Rochester, Sunday, morning for further medical attention.

I Mr. and Mrs. Allen Barkley and baby of Janesville visited Saturday and Sunday in the Dan Higgins home. Mr. and Mrs.

Arthur Dietrich of Luana were supper guests on Friday evening in the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Schave. Mrs. Dora Manthey, Mrs.

Anna Brouillet, Mrs. Verna Schroeder and Sarah Miller attended the bazaar and dinner at Castalia Wednesday. Mrs. Irvin Crawford has been called to Waukon on account of the serious illness of her mother, Mrs. O.

C. Leer. Mr. Leer is also very ill. Cleone Crawford accompanied the Leer children and Grace Russett to Minneapolis, Sunday afternoon, after a week-end visit here.

Frankville friends of Sidney Packard who formerly resided here will be sorry to hear of his death which occurred at his home in Seattle, October 29. Mrs. Ruth Padden and her niece, Charlotte Ferris, Mrs. Emmet Schroeder and Bonnie Jane attended a Rebekah mother and daughter banquet in Postville Thursday evening. Mr.

and Mrs. Fred Suckow, Ruth and Otto, and Mrs. Joe Brorby of Clermont, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mcintosh and Mrs.

John Mcintosh of Locust were Sunday dinner guests in the Mr. and Mrs. George Schave home. Mr. and Mrs.

John Leer and family of Minneapolis, and Grace Russett came Friday evening for a weekend visit with home folks. John and his wife remained on account of the serious illness of his mother, Mrs. O. C. Leer, at Waukon, JUNCTION NEWS Birthday Party Ernest Brandt, A large group of friends and relatives came with well filled baskets on Friday evening to help Ernest Brandt celebrate his 68th birthday, The evening was spent playing Five Hundred and prizes were awarded to Mrs.

Charles Brandt and Verni Brandt, Arlene Mosor and "Shorty" Thornton. Traveling prize was won by Mrs. Verni Englo. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs.

Austin, Mrs, Margaret 1 and children, who made their hoi with Mr. Bush, also survive. Ott surviving relatives'are Forest S. StJj of El and Fred Deanj Long Beach, Calif. Mr.
