Yanks Missing In Uganda Presumed Dead KAMPALA, Uganda (UPI)-The United States Embassy says two Americans who disappeared in southwestern Uganda nearly six weeks ago are now presumed dead. An embassy spokesman said Wednesday arrangements were being made to issue certificates of presumptive death for freelance journalist Nicholas Stroh, 33, of suburban Detroit, and lecturer Robert Siedle, 46.

The two men left Kampala for Mbarara, ISO miles southwest of here, on July 7. They are believed to have been detained at Mbarara Army barracks two days later. Neither of them has ben seen since. According to friends, Stroh was investigating the reported killing of several soldiers at the barracks at the end of June. President Idi Amin suggested last month that the disappearance of the two men might have been engineered by disloyal troops or civilians who wanted to jeopardize Ugandan- American relations.

An inquiry by army, air force and police officers began two and a half weeks ago, but the embassy spokesman said he had no information of its progress.
