There is a man named Bcnncr on the Southslde and a man named Bennett on the Northside. On account of a difficulty in the martial relations of the former the latter was brought to jail last evening and some transactions of unpleasant nature will be aired in the courts. According to his story Ben- ncr's wife had left him and he wanted her liack. Ho supposed she was witli her sister, Rosa Martlndale. who' was a housekeeper for Bennett, and after spending a part of the night in fruitless search for her sent Sergeant Morris and Officer Costello to search the Bennett home. Thomas Brown, who was arrested onrly Sunday morning on a charge of assault and battery with Intent 'to nmrdfr Niol, is In the jail waiting until his victim cither gets well enough to appear against, him or dies and changes the charge written in the affidavit. All day Sunday and yesterday NIol's life hung in the balance. Lnte last night Dr. -Nye.

the attending physician, reported that ho was slightly better. The fractured skull and consequent concussion make Mel's chances of life about equal. Many years ago Kiel was run over by a passenger train at the Wabash depot, slipping and falling from the platform of .1 car when the train pulled out He lost his left leg just below the knee. The sobriquet of "Peggy" has clung to him since he recovered from the amputation that followed. Brown is another character of the streets.

According to tho police his real name is "Diller." It may be something else if Niel does not recover and manslaughter is proved against him. The authorities recall a bigamy case in which the defendant was the same who will figure in this case as defendant. It is said that Diller changed his name to Brown while the case was being fought and escaped on a technicality. The accused is said to have come here from Plymouth. HIS OWN HAND Murder Averted, Manslaughter Stayed, Suicilde Triumphs.

After an Attempt to Kill Kline Sensenbaugh Shoots Himself. With a shot gun half raised toward Ills shoulder, Its muzzle pointing toward Sensenbaugb, John Kline's hnnd was stayed and a scream escaped his tightly drawn lips as Sonscubaugh raised his hand, holding a revolver and, pointing it at bis own head, pulled the trigger. A second more might have changed the story. bad made an attempt but a minute before to brain Kline with an ux. Kline had.escaped ami running into the house secured his shot gun with the intention of defending himself to the death from Sensenbaugh, an old man but, fired by insanity, tremendously strong.

As he reached the door again the tragedy worked out its own finish'and Kline throwing away the weapon with which he wns prepared if necessary to take the life of the old man, ran toward the prostrate, gasping, suicide. It was at Onward yesterday that this took pla.ce. Coroner Busjahn returned from there last evening with such an account of the affair. The suicide occurred a little after noon. Sensenbaugh was a farmer, and Kline wns a tenant in his house.

The former was known to be mentally unbalanced and Kline had been warned that he might have trouble with him. While Kline was at work out doors Sciifienbaugh slipped toward him stealthily and made n. vicious lunge at an ax which he had picked up. Kline saw the move and sprang aside the ax glancing from his shoul'd- or ami drawing blood. There was a struggle for life as the two locked in deadly embrace, youth and strength pitted against insane rage and superhuman fury.

In the pocket of the old man's trousers was a 3S-calibre revolver but he did not think to use it or was prevented from disengaging- his hand by Kline while they struggled. Finally Kline freed himself. He ran toward the house, only a short distance away. Thore his shot gnu and it was loaded In an instant. If it became a struggle for the survival of the fittest' Kline was prepared to prolong his own existence.

He opened the door but oven as the hinges of the door grated tlio report of Scnsenbaugh's revolver was hoard uncl the- old man fell, face down, blood gushing the wound in his hoad. Kline, as soon aw the sudden tide in the affair had been ill-ought home to him, Inm-ied to his assistance but there was no aid that could be given by mortal bauds. He I quickly called neighbors who had not I heard the shot and word was sent to Ihis city, in response to which the coroner made bis trip to the little town late yesterday afternoon. He found the town stirred to its utmost by the tragedy. An investigation as to the sanity of the old man was made and Kline's story of the tragedy seemed feasible.

Sensonbaugh. it is reported, was a man addicted to drink. His farm is lint a. little way from Onward, He was years old and addicited to es- ciTitricitios by which he was known to the neighborhood. He was unmarried and Jed almost the life of a recluse.

For some years at least it'has been known that his mind wa.s not strong and the property which, in earlier days, he had farmed himself he handed over to Kline to care for. Kline was not arrested.
