Last Tuesday, while the wind was blowing a gale, the fire alarm was turned in from the Mrs. Delaney residence in the north part of town. The boys made: a quick run, but fortunately, the fire had been extinguished before they arrived.

Mrs. Delaney had lighted the oil stove and stepped out of the room, and she supposed that some papers that were on the wall had gotten blown down, as when she returned the papers and some clothes near by were on fire. No material damage was done, but had it ever gotten under headway it would have been hard to handle on account of everything being SO dry and the high wind that day. SOCIAL UNION ELECTS OFFICERS. Mary's church in David City occurred the marriage of Miss Julia Ficke to Mr. Hugh Kelly. Father Carriher officiating. The nuptial high mass was sung by the pastor at 9 o'clock. The bride is the daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Herman Ficke of this city and the groom a young farmer of Surprise, Nebraska. They have the distinction of being the first couple to be married in the beautiful new church. They went at once to their home in Surprise. HARVEY-CONNELL Wednesday afternoon at four-thirty o'clock Miss Beulah Harvey and Clarence Connell both of this city, were quietly married at the Christian parsonage by Rev.

Kechley. Only near relatives and Miss Pearl Blevins, a friend of the bride, were in attendance at the ceremony. The young couple went to Garrison in the evening to visit a few days with the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Tom Gallager. The happy couple will go immediately to housekeeping in this city.

Balliet Armagost was born August 7, 1843 in Pennsylvania and died July 21, 1912 at the age of sixty-nine years, eleven months and seventeen days. Five weeks ago she was taken to the David City hospital where a successful operation for gall stone was performed but kidney trouble set in afterwards which caused her On October 15, 1865 she was married to James C. Armagost in Stevenson County, Illinois.

Nine children were born to this union John G. of Omaha, William D. and Miles J. of Surprise, Erank T. of Adam N.

of Beaver Crossing, Mrs. Rachael Barker of Rising City, Mrs. James Fosbender of Shelby, Mrs. Ellen Claypool of David City and one child dead. Deceased was also a mother of two step-daughters, Mrs.

John Miller of David City and Mrs. C. N. Shreckengost. In 1871 deceased withfher family moved from Stevenson County, Illinois to Nebraska and settled on a homestead near Millerton at which place she resided until her death.

Her husband preceded her to the better world some eleven years ago, he having died June 9, 1901. Besides the children and a host of friends she leaves three brothers, two sisters, thirty-five' grandchildren and three great-grandchildren to mourn her death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Rising School House near Millerton, Rev. Stafford of the Luthern church of Rising City conducting the services. Most heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereaved children and relatives.
