Social THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 1999 PLATTSMOUTH JOURNAL PAGE 5 Births Engagement announcements Murray Judy Blasig News 235-2203 9 1 T' iL JS s' On Monday, August 23rd the Presbyterian Session will meet at 7:00 p.m. Looking ahead, mark your calendar for Sunday, September 12, for the Sunday School Rally day which begins the new year for Sunday School. Annual meeting The Cass County 4th of July Association held it's Annual Meeting on Monday evening, August 2nd, 1999 in Murray. The purpose of the meeting was to elect the officers for the coming new year. Elected president was Jerry Blasig, Vice President is James Parriot, Secretary is Pat Spangler, Treasurer and Public Relations is Norma Spangler.

Chairperson is Daryl Sivard. These people will hold their offices until August of 2000. The next meeting is December 6, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. at Tom Cats in Murray to see if we can get a street dance and dart tournament set for next spring. Anyone is welcome to come to our meeting, we have had two new people since the fourth.

Great grandparents are Darlene Brodersen, the late Alvin Brodersen, Vicky Fitzpatrick and the late Frank Fitzpatrick, Norma Still, South Carolina and Maijorie and Harold Rich, Elgin, Illinois. HOCHSTELN Greg and Stephanie (Dixon) Hochstein, Plattsmouth, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Emily Renee, on 8-3-99 at Methodist Hospital, Omaha. She weighed seven pounds, 11-12 ounces at birth. Grandparents are Bill and Kyle Dixon, LaVista, and Don and Elaine Hochstein, Hartington, Neb.

Great grandparents are Don and Evelyn Welker, Melbourne, Bette Susa, Irwin, and Veronica Burbach, Colderidge, Neb. BUFFLNGTON Jeff and Tracy Buffington of Weeping Water are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Brianna Christina, bom on July 9, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha. She weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 21 long. Brianna was welcomed home by her two sisters, Danielle and Melissa. Grandparents are Louise Buffington, Weeping Water and George and Kathy Welch, Peoria, Ariz.

Great-grandparents are Doris Welch, Grand Island, and Ada Ingrim, Lincoln. Calendar of events Aug. 17 Lions Club meets Aug. 23 Presbyterian Session meets at 7:00 p.m. Family reunion A family reunion was held at the home of Bob and Norma Spangler, on Saturday, August 7th, 1999.

Those attending were Rev. and Mrs. James Favors from Delhi, California, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Favors from Columbus, Nebraska, Mr.

and Mrs. Charles Meyer from Stanton, Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Courtney from Sidney, Iowa, Dorothy Favors from Omaha, Nebraska and Brandy Pruitt of Omaha. The day was spent visiting and catching up with the families as it has been a year since they were all together.

There are plans for next year, same time and same place. Sunday dinner guests at Bob and Norma Spangler's home were Rev. and Mrs. James Favor of Delhi, California, Mrs. Lori Courtney of Sidney, Iowa, she is James's daughter and his grandson Tony Pruitt of Emogene, Iowa.

The day was spent visiting. In the evening everyone went to eat in Plattsmouth for their evening meal and then they took a tour of Plattsmouth to show where James and Norma lived and went to school when they were young. Murray Christian Church news 6 i HOLLY MARIE THUMAN AND MATTHEW ALEXEN Gregg and Marcia Thuman, Union are proud to announce the engagement and upcoming marriage of their daughter, Holly Marie to Matthew Andrew Alexen, son of Alan and June Alexen, of Plattsmouth. A September 18th wedding is planned at St. Pauls United Church of Christ, Plattsmouth.

Local News Word has been received of the sudden death of Emilie Bierl Willis of cardiac arrest. She, with her husband, Robert Willis, lived in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She graduated from Plattsmouth High School with the Class of 1943. Ruffner The descendants of Ed and Madaline Ruffner, long time residents of this community, held their traditional family reunion the week-end of July 30, 31 and August 1st at the home of Betty Beebe in Davenport, Washington. A total of some 70 people attended the three-day affair including 50 members of the Ruffner family.

They came from five states Pennsylvania, Illinois, BABCOCK Gary and Jody Babcock are the proud parents of William Turner, bom July 26, 1999 in Colorado Springs, Colo. He weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces at birth. He was welcomed home by big brother Trevor, 22 months old. Grandparents are Janice Mrasek, Roger and Roxanne Mrasek Plattsmouth and Elaine Babcock, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Great-grandparents are Helen McKinney and Don and Betty Mrasek, Plattsmouth.

DRAPER Ryan, 12 and Makenna, 9, Plattsmouth, are proud to announce the arrival of a brother. Chance Colby, bom at NHS, Omaha. He weighed 6 pounds, 5 ounces at birth and was 19-14 inches long. Parents are Rod and Geri Draper, Plattsmouth. Grandparents are Stan and D.

BUECHLER IH Amy Lambert and Jerry "Jed" J. Buechler II, Plattsmouth are proud to announce the birth of their son, Jerry Jacob Buechler III on June 2, 1999. He weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces and was 19" long. His uncle is Jamie Lambert, Plattsmouth. Grandparents are Diane Buechler-Frye, Plattsmouth and Gary Lambert.

Step grandparents are Beth Lambert, Union and Jerry J. Buechler and Lori Buechler, Bellevue. Great grandparents are Earl and Evelyn Lambert, Council Bluffs, Iowa. EASTERLING Michelle Brodersen and Ryan Easterling, Plattsmouth are proud to Eastern Star A golfing event was held at the Plattsmouth Country Club on Saturday, July 31st hosted by Home Chapter 189, Order of the Eastern Star. Fifty four members, friends, and out of town guests gathered in honor of Dee Schuetz, who is currently serving the State of Nebraska O.E.S.

Americanism -Members flew their flag on July 4th. A 4th of July program at the Jane Henning home was put on by her children. Members will have a Bakeless Bake Sale this fall. Janis Kinnison accepted the office of Junior Vice Commander vacated by Twila Adkins. Members voted to pay our State Mandate that is due.

The 1999 theme is "The Last of the Nineties." Platte Valley Chapter of ABWA will once again hold its Little Miss and Little Master of Kornland Pageant This year it will be held on Saturday, September 11th at Curves-Plattsmouth Recreation Center (old Middle School Gym on Main Street) so it will be closer to the carnival activities! Children ages 4-6 are eligible to participate in the pageant. Entry forms are now available at local merchants or call Pat at 296-2756. The doors will open at 9:00 a.m. with the Pageant starting promptly at 10:00 a.m. Entrants will be introduced and interviewed before a panel of judges.

Crowning of the 1999 Little Miss and Master of Kornland will take place at this event. All proceeds from this event go to the Platte Valley Chapter of 4 ABWA Scholarship Fund.
