January Clearance January White Sale Visit the New Bargain Basement Large Dancing Parties Mark Arrival of 1934 Over 600 Couplet Attend Six Functions Given Over Week- End to Fete New Year The stroke of midnight Sunday saw the new year ushered into the Capital city amid a whirl of social activity which climaxed a gay holiday season. During the week-end over 000 couples weip guests at large dancing parties which began Ftiday evening with the Forty club party, attended by 85 couples. A party of special interest-to the younger social set was the traditional all-college party held at Riverside pavilion at Mandan with music by the Sammy Kontos orchestra. Numerous dinner parties preceded the dance. In Bismarck the large functions, In addition to that of the Forty club, were given by the Bismarck Dinner and Danoe club Saturday evening, the United Commercial Travelers and Ancient Order of United Workmen Sunday evening and the Capitol club which entertained Monday evening.

The Forty club, United Commercial Travelers and the Bismarck Dinner and Dance club pooled contributions toward creating, a tropical setting in the Patterson hall where their parties were held on successive evenings. For the U. C. T. function.

Urn Terrace Gardens and the main dining room of the Patterson hotel also were pressed into service. Eighty-two couples, many of them holiday guests in Bismarck, attended the parly of the Dinner and Dance club, which will give another dinner and danoe during the pre-Lenten season. Dinner was served at 8 o'clock and dancing followed with music by Faynter and his Berenaders. Hundreds of balloons and confetti, serpentine and noisemakers were used to create a carnival effect Over 300 couples attend the dinner and about 300 oouples were present at the dance which marked the celebration given by the U. C.

T. There were many out-of-town guests, among them people from Moorhead, Glendive, Aberdeen, S. and Fargo and Minot. Lonbaken of Dickinson. Mr. and Thomas were married at 4:30 Monday afternoon, Dec. 18, at St. Episcopal church by Rev.

John Richardson, rector. Witnesses to the ceremony were Mr. Thomas' son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Thomas, Driscoll.

Since their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas have been' visiting with friends and relatives at Jamestown, Courtenay, Haaen and Driscoll. Mrs. Thomas now has returned to Dickinson, where she will continue her work as registrar of the State Teachers college until the present school year ends.

Mr. Thomas, who Is with the state highway department, was stationed at Dickinson this summer and now is located in Bismarck. Mrs. Thomas formerly lived at Grafton and also has taught in the schools at Driscoll. Drake Masonic Groups Install New Officers The Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic lodge at Drake recently conducted a joint installation of officers.

The Misses Jean McDowell and Mabel Bamuelson, who spent part of their holiday vacation in Valley City, arrived here Saturday to spend a few days before returning to their teaching duties at Velva. Miss Alvhild Botnen Bride of Tilmer Lien The marriage of Miss Alvhild Botnen, Tuttle, and Tilmer Lien, Driscoll, was solemnized Sunday afternoon, Dec. 31, at the home of Rev. and Mrs. C. J.

Fylling, Mandan. The bride was dressed in medium blue flat crepe trimmed in rhinestones. She was attended by Miss Dagney Botnen, Tuttle, who wore orlght blue flat crepe. Mr. Lien had for his best man Arnold ChHstianson, Mandan.

Following the ceremony, a wedding dinner was given at the home of the bridegroom's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Varholt, Driscoll. Mr. and Mrs.

Lien will make their home on a farm 12 miles north of Driscoll. Mrs. Lien is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Botnen, Tuttle.

She graduated from Tuttle high school and later attended the Dickinson and Valley City State Teachers colleges. At present she is teaching at a school north of Driscoll. Miss Mathilda of Fargo, who is an instructor at Moorhead State Teachers college, Moorhead, is spending part of her holiday vacation with her brother-in-law and sister. Dr. and Mrs.

E. G. Patterson of the Patterson hotel Monday night entertained the committee which arranged the New eve dancing party of the United Commercial Travelers at a 7 steak dinner given at the hotel dining room. Miss Maude A. Tollefson, 522 Second entertained the junior members of the Guild with a series of games and refreshments at her home Friday evening.

There were 15 guests. Miss Lillian Cook, 610 Fifth entertained at dinner Sunday evening Miss Pearl Salsberry, director of field work for the state emergency relief committee, and Mrs. Grace Glendenning of Minneapolis, who is spending some time here. Mrs. Glendenning is a former resident of Jamestown.

Leaving Saturday to resume their studies at the University of North Dakota were Ben Jacobson, son of Airs. Selma Jacobson, 310 First St, and Ernest Benser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis A. Benser, 428 Fifteenth St.

Edward Dehne, Lester McLean and Paul Cook left for the University Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. C. P.

Stone, Fargo, were week-end house guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffman, 410 Thayer Avenue, West. Mr. and Mrs.

Stone were honored at a dinner party given Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Smith, 608 Fifth and were guests of Mr.

H. Pierce, Mohawk apartments, returned to Minneapolis Friday to resume her work, as a commercial artist for the Dayton company. Mrs. Fannie Cochran Oeltjen of the Mohawk apartments was hostess at a party given Thursday evening to honor Miss Pierce, who was presented with a gift Mr. and Mrs.

Ludwig Pederson, who recently moved from Bismarck to Grand Forks, last Thursday entertained a group of relatives In celebration of their silver wedding anniversary. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Amoth of Clyde, Mrs. Minnie Amoth of Wales, Martin Rimstead of Hampden and Miss Blanche Gunderson of Wales.

The out-of-town guests were Mrs. Marjory DeLancy and her children, Doris and Theodore, who are here from Minneapolis and will remain the rest of this week, and Mrs. M. B. Sanger, who has come from Mexico City, Mexico, and will pass the remainder of the winter in Bismarck.

Mrs. DeLancy is Mrs. daughter and Mrs. Sanger is her sister. Miss Blanche Whittemore, who has spent the holidays with her parents, Dr.

and Mrs. A. A. Whittemore of Napoleon, former residents of Bismarck, left Tuesday noon for Northfield. after being an overnight guest of Miss Rita Murphy, 213 Avenue A West.

Miss Whittemore will be one of the bridal attendants at the wedding of Miss Laura Stumely and M. M. Mikkelson, both of Willmar, which will take place at Northfield Thursday.
