Central Library To Become A "Summer Wonderland" The entrance way outside of the Brooklyn Public Library's Central Library's Children's Room is being transformed into a colorful garden with an Alice in Wonderland theme, thanks to some very valuable assistance from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. When the Central Library decided to spruce up its exterior through the use of plantings, it turned to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for help. Catherine Annese, Director of Community Horticulture for BBG enlisted the aid of garden design consultant Alane Joynes, who then donated the design for the collaborative beautification.

project. Joynes, a long-time Brooklyn resident, feels a strong affection for the Brooklyn Public Library's Children's Room. Joynes said she wanted to create a garden that says to the children, "You're special come and take a book and be in this fantasy garden." The more than 20 varieties of bulbs, annuals, perennials and shrubs being planted in the Library's Children's Garden were chosen for both their appearance and' fragrance. The garden will incorporate figures depicting characters from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.
