Area Working Hard To Combat Teen Drug Abuse On April 8th, the Canarsie Youth Center enjoyed a visit from the PANIC organization "Parents Against Narcotics In Canarsie" A speaker, Ron Samaria, brought by Sid Weider, expressed his neighborhood's feelings regarding the prevalence of drug use in his community of Bergen Beach and Mill Basin.

It was very refreshing to hear his dialogue and to know that other communities are working hard to combat drug abuse and to rid the Brooklyn area of pushers. Questions were raised as to prevention and how to effect changes in our vouth so that they won't get into drug use. The complexity of the problem in general was discussed. In the end all agreed that a strong family unit, communication amongst family members, and an active parent and community, organized to get out there and fight, were the essential components that could at least meet the challenge of drug availability and use in the neighborhoods.
