OF CRAVEN HOURS Wt-M hours after the wireless flash had order ed the ihip to Mexico the1 revenue cutter Seminole be. speeding down the Cape Fefir driver, eagerly -en its way to be in anything that might be going on in that yicihityl Contrary to a popular impression the cutter men are real fighters, -and play an important part, in. a navalwa, i. Capt.

G. Carden, in command of the Seninole, said today- that the cutters can do as much in proportion to their size as the superdreadnoughts-and are expected to do it, too, in time of war. If called to Mexican waters the Seminole would likely be put patrol duty, Captain Carden said in pely to a question. In this work engage ments are by no means improbable. He related instances of how, when he was on the cutter Manning in the Spanish-American war doing patrol duty off the coast of Cuba, several Spanish warships were encountered with resulting engagements.

On land the cutter boys are fierce fighters and have numbers of time covered themselves 1 with glory be deeds of valor. Judging from the sent! ment pn board the Seminole, a call to the front would be hailed with delight. Wilmington is neadquarters for the cutter. Will life insurance policies remain iA forcejand be paid in case the insured goes to war and is killed? This I question was asked yesterday of several local representatives of the larger insurance companies.

The answers in each instance were that the policies would be-paid in case the risk 5 was a volunteer soldier, just as It would in event of fdeath under any other circumstances. 1 One company, which will not pay a policy of less age than a year from date of the "UsiJance in of suicide, according to an agent of it, would make the same proviso apply in case of service of the insured in the armies of his country. New Bern offices of one of the larg-' est companies in the yesterday received instructions from headquarters to issue insurance policies to any volunteer soldier, seeking them, with an added premium of $50 per thousand of the face of the policy. This $50 is a fixed extra charge for the sol-dicr in the present troublous time.
