This program under the guidance of Ruth Fraser, who eads up the adult education programs for the Board of Education, is expected to generate widespread interest and participation on the part of the local, residents. The center's director will be Mr. Stan Klein.

Citizens of the area have sought to obtain such a program for South Shore High School since the school opened in 1970. Early this fall the Task Force, after meeting with community leaders, took steps to help obtain the center at the school. The school is particularly well suited for an adult education center, since it is one of the few combined academic and vocational high schools in the city. The most up-to-date instructional aids, as well as a wide range of recreational, academic and vocational facilities will be combined to make the South Shore Adult Center the place to pick up a new skill, further one's education or get some exercise About twenty different courses will be offered this January, ranging from contemporary literature and psychology to dancing, golf and business skills. "From all reports, the Adult Center is shaping up to be an exciting new addition to the Flatlands-Canarsie area.

All those who worked so hard to make this center a reality should be commended," Commissioner Fabber said. Persons over the age of 18 who are not attending school are eligible to enroll. As this center is partially self-sustaining, a registration fee of $1.00 and a modest course fee will be charged. Courses will be held one night a week with a limit of 25-30 people per class. If you wish to enroll, or if you have any further questions, contact: Stan Klein, Adult Education Center, South Shore High School, 6565 Flatlands Ave.
