In putting they seek a grip that provides a maximum sense of feel and unity between the hands. A firm grasp of the club is less a factor than on full shots. The most popular putting grip by far is the reverse-overlap grip (see illustrations). You will note that both of my thumbs ex- tend down the top of the club- shaft and the forefinger of my left hand laps over the fingers of my right hand.

One other factor I feel is important in the putting grip is that the palms be facing each other. Thus, this grip has the back of my left hand facing down the target line, along with the palm of my right hand. And both palms are aligned with the clubface itself.
