A I Elsie Cavanaugh of Grand Rapids, president of the state auxiliary, was present at the regular meeting of the Traverse City Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3t3. At this time Mabel Allen this city, who is a trustee the state auxiliary, also was honored, both being presented with corsages and a gift.

Mrs. Cavanaugh gave an interesting and instructive talk on several topics, including the Eagle Memorial Foundation Fund, the recent Damon Runyan Cancer drive. Following the meeting Roger Rhu- man and Teddy Smith entertained with accordion solos after i refreshments were served from tables decorated in the Hallowe'en motif. A drive to secure new customers is being launched by Traverse City's waste collection department, which has just been augmented by the addition of a new unit to its fleet of three trucks. Activated in 1944 when the city took over the service of one privately operated collection business, the waste collection department has shown a steady growth.

Covering the entire city as well as the jesort area east of the city and a short distance into Leelanau county, the waste collection units 20,120 miles in collecting 5,451 tons of refuse last year, equalling 19.5 tons per working day and an average of 2.8 tons of waste per customer for the year. The department now serves 1,879 customers. Pick-up residential service is handled once each week, with daily collection for commercial customers. The service is billed with city utility service accounts each month. Department drivers, shown with their vehicles, are: left to right, Jack Olman, Robert Bellows and Ernest Milks.
