RECORD-EAGLE, TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN PAGE ELEVEN SATURDAY, AUGUST 6, 1949 ft Ford May Go to Supreme Court DETROIT, Aug. Ford, Motor company was reported planning to appeal to the state supreme court today to halt next Monday's election in which three- fourths of its 106,000 production workers will decide whether they to strike. Reliable sources said the company would ask the high court to postpone the balloting of Michigan workers because the state labor mediation board ruled that the vote in two key plants be held outside company property. The amended state Bonine-Tripp labor act provides a company owned site unless a fair election cannot be held there. A spokesman for the company, yesterday climaxed angry word warfare with the CIO United Auto Workers by revising its settlement proposal, declined to comment on the reports.

Ford countered the UAW's eco- nomic demands by proposing a 12- month freeze of wages and economic provisions of the presenl contract and an 15-month continuation of other provisions, from July 15. its expiration date. UAW President Walter P. Reuther immediately rejected the proposal and replied angrily to charges by Ford industrial relations chief Jolm S. Bugas that he and othei union leaders had made "calculated misstatements." Keuther proposed that he and Bugas air issues in the contract negotiations, which have dalliec since 2, at a mass meeting of Detroit area Ford workers in Briggs Stadium Sunday.

Ford did not reply, taut it was recalled that the company rejected a similar proposal during the recent 25-day "speedup" strike at River Rouge and Lincoln Ford plants center of the ballot controversy. The Ford proposal actually was a slightly amended and formalized version of its previous IS-nionth wage freeze plan. The three chiefs of staff came with the Atlantic treaty's pledge of mutual defense against aggres- al and other problems connected to Europe to discuss lorganlzation- sion. Nassau county officials said Zie- niaii had returned recently from a civilian post with the navy in the Pacific and had told friends he was going to kill his former wife, Mary, 4U, and her husband ol three weeks.
