Moving to Brooklyn in 1900 in the merger with the Baltimore team, McGlnnity earned the title of "Iron Man" by pitching in six winning games against Pittsburg- in seven days, enabling Brooklyn to win the pennant. If Pitt wins they will be rated as the best team in the country. Notre Dame excepted. They have bowled over nil kinds of opposition, and a win over Tech will establish their ability without question.

They have yet to play a team, however, that will be as tough as these men of Steffen's are going to be. It is and old saying that a fair Tech team can beat a good I'itt team. Tech has never outplayed Pitt, but they have ul-ways outfought the ranthera. The question, is however, can fight heat, the great natural strength of the Panthers. There is so much power out there ahead of the ball, that it looks like it will take a lot more than a win-uing mental attitude to stop it.

One of the most interesting sidelights of the battle will be the Individual contest between the two fullbacks. Parkinson of Pitt, and Kareis of Carnegie.

Parkinson was out of the Tech game last year with injuries, and will have to make a good showing to convince the I'laid that he is as god as he is rated. Karcis will have two jobs to perform. Ho will have to keep the Pit star, from wrecking the I'laid line, nnd will also have to regain the prestige the lost in the Pitt game last year, when he failed to livo up to his "l'ive Yards'' re team is offset by a similar ability on the part of the other. The two teams, as far as can be ascertained from pre-game reports will be two of the best-matched grid squads ever to play on the Cricket field. The probable starting line-up for Altoona has not yet been announced, due to the competition varsity players are receiving from some of the promising reserves.

It is likely however that "Snaps" Emanuel will start the same eleven that has appeared, with slight variations, in all of the major contests this year. Advance reports give Billtown an edge on forward passing; Altoona an advantage in ball-toting and thats what wins football games. At least that little microbe, over-confidence, should not get into the system of Altoona players before this game. There is nothing for either eleven to crow about in scanning the records of its "competitors. Altoona fans and players are dubious concerning the outcome.

Williamsport fans and players are frankly scared, according to reports from the Millionaire city. Saturday two cautious teams, each with a healthy respect for the prowess of the other, will spar their way into the opening period. The REAL FIGHT won't come until one of them fathoms the strength of the other. All week the Maroon has been hurling itself at passes in an attempt to "reduce the overhead" Saturday. For if Williamsport "takes off" Altoona players will, need to be alert, or chances will go blooey.

The MilliOn- ber Jacks. John Hicn son. $1.95 CRESSOX WIN AM) IX ADMTIOX The rain of the last two days has given rise to conjecture as to what will happen on a muddy -field. Offhand, it would seem that mud would give the edge to Williamsport's heavier team. It is usually assumed that the team which possesses speed is outclassed by the hefty outfit when the footing Is slippery.

But is doubtful if such statements will apply in this case. It would be hard to imagine worse conditions than those which prevailed for the Altoona-Windber combat. Yet try to, prove that the mud retarded the Maroon attack to any degree on that occasion. Ask the Windber players what they think about it. It seems that the 1929 Avalanche works at Ms best regardless of weather conditions.
