(AP) Patricia Hurley, the new Miss Pennsylvania, is a 21 year old telephone company clerk from Wilkes Barre who also works as a part time modeling instructor. Before being crowned at the conclusion of the annual beauty pageant Saturday night, Miss Hurley, a Woot 8 brunette who represented Luzerne County, had shown her modeling talents by winning the title of Miss Photogenic in the preliminaries. She succeeds Dorisann Gatalski of Bethel Park as Miss Pennsylvania and will represent the Commonwealth in the Miss USA pageant at Niagara falls in May. 1 Runners up were Rita Washko, 18, as Miss Johnstown, and Marcy Zambelli, 19, Miss Lawrence County.

Miss Kathy Kocjancic, sponsored by Kane Kiwanis Club, represented Kane in the beauty pageant. Up to 12 Inches Of Snow Aills in Midwest States By The Associated Press A March lion roared across the nation's midsection today dumping from four to 12 inches of snow over the Midwest, canceling school in Kansas and Missouri and immobilizing traffic and commerce. The traffic deaths of four persons in Missouri and two in Kansas were blamed on weather conditions that loaded from four to 12 inches across those two states. The snows whitened areas from the northwestern Plains to the southern Appalachians. The heaviest accumulation early today was concentrated in the middle Mississippi Valley and western Ohio Valley.

St. Louis had eight inches of snow with from four to six more inches predicted. The Joplin, airport shut down under a seven inch blanket. A foot of snow covered areas in northcentral and southeastern Kansas. Heavy snow warnings remained in effect for Illinois, Indiana and parts of Kentucky and Ohio.

Rain and thundershowers were scattered over the lower Mississippi Valley and central Gulf states with some sleet from Arkansas to western South Carolina. Clouds were gathering over the middle and southern Atlantic coast but remained clear over the northern coast. Rain and snow showers swept southern Oregon and northern California. A travelers advisory was issued for the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. Temperatures before dawn ranged from 9 below at Hibbing, to 72 at Brownsville, Tex.

Peter Beebe of Oberlin, the Episcopal priest who allowed two women to preside at communion in his church. Beebe was charged with disobeying church law after he permitted two irregularly ordained women priests to celebrate the sacraments in December, the Ohio Diocese said. Another priest in the diocese, the Robert Hall, also might face such sanctions.

The Rev. Mr. Hall said he would permit a woman, the Rev. Allison Cheek, to celebrate communion next Sunday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Steubenville.

SPRUILL, VISCO ARRAIGNED PITTSBURGH (AP) Gerald Spruill and Anthony Visco were arraigned on murder charges over the weekend in connection with the 1972 execution style slaying of John Beck in his Natrona home. Spruill is the 22 year old stepbrother C.mnn "Pinnll n.kn Wo. already been convicted of the Beck murder. Gino Spruill has since been charged with five other murders committed while he was a fugitive from Western State Penitentiary. Visco, 60, was arrested near his home.

Gerald Spruill was already in custody at Rockview State Correctional Institution, servine a sentence for i IK, a I If 'h I I fl I' PeopU in the News By The Associated Press LONDON (AP) A London newspaper says that actor Sean Con nery, the movies' James Bond, has secretly married a French Moroccan portrait painter. The Daily Mirror said in a story from Marrakesh, Morocco, where Connery is making a movie, that the bride was Micheline Roquebrune, 39. It said she had been married twice before. Connery, 44, and actress Diane Cilento were divorced in 1973 after 10 years of marriage. The paper said that a friend of the couple reported they were married in Casablanca about four months ago.

MALIBU, Calif. Durga Ji, the wife of religious leader Guru Maharaj Ji, has given birth to a girl, a spokesman said Sunday. The parents chose the name Premlata, which means. "Vine of Love," for the 8 pound, 8 ounce child. Mother and daughter were described as doing well.

Maharaj Ji, 17, and the former Marolyn Johnson of San Diego were married May 20, 1974. The India born guru says his Denver based Divine Light Mission has eight million followers worldwide. BOSTON (AP) Dr. Kenneth C. Edelin, the physican convicted of manslaughter in the death of a fetus he aborted in a legal operation, says he would be happy if he never had to perform another abortion.

"But it's not my choice," the Boston City Hospital doctor said Sunday. "That choice cannot be be made by religious or political leaders, by physicans or by juries. That choice must be made by women." CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) Lee R. Scherer director of the Kennedy Space Center, is in fair condition with a punctured lung and other injuries following an auto accident in which one man was killed.

Scherer, 55, a retired Navy captain, was placed in a Titusville hospital after his car was struck from the rear by a pickup truck driven by Ralph Fisher, 51. Fisher was dead on arrival at the hospital. MIAMI (AP) A Miami born man jailed in Cuba since he and a friend engaged in a shootout with Fidel Castro agents in 1961 has been freed. Alfredo Sanchez Echeverria, 38, had been jailed on terrorism and sabotage charges following the, incident in front of the presidential palace in Havana, the Miami Herald reported. Echeverria is the son of former Cuban Foreign Minister Aureliano Sanchez Arango, who fought against dictator Fulgencio Batista and later against Castro.

In 1960, Arango came to Miami, where he has headed several anti Castro groups. It was not known immediately whether Echeverria would be allowed to leave Cuba. Over the weekend, Major James Brehen conducted a 28th Division Support Command inspectiona preliminary to the "IG" inspection this spring. Major Brehen complimented the unit on the state of the armory, personnel and activities. A movie on "Tropical Storm Agnes" in which the local unit served during the emergency was shown and refreshments were served. Visitors were escorted through the Armory where equipment displays were explained including "gear" for one man which took up an entire table.

Busy at the area in the drill was a group of men from Lock Haven at work on rifles. Some of the trucks and equipment were moved into the Army area from the compound on Ash Street. In the basement area is a project of the local PNG members converting an old, unused storage area into a recreational room. It was reported that it will be "some time" before the rec room is completed. The weekend open house was keyed to the current "Minuteman" program.

Kane's unit ended 1974 at full strength, the first time since the draft. In a recent comment on Kane's unit, State Adjutant General Harry J. Mier reports that the unit is putting money into the Kane economy, noting that $82,090 in federal and state monies were paid out here from National Guard military pay and operating expenses. He also noted that more than $5,500 in construction is planned for Kane during fiscal years 1975 through 1978. According to Adjutant General Mier, a sergeant with four years' experience makes nearly $70 a drill weekend.

Guardsmen and women attend one weekend drill a month, plus 15 days of summer camp. He said there are more than 200 jobs available in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. "In addition," he said, "Many high school students who either don't have a technical background or can't find a decent job upon graduation have been coming to the Guard to get that needed training for free. Current high school seniors can join the Guard now and attend basic training following their graduation. Those same students can then use their Guard income to help them through college." He emphasized that although the Guard is at full strength, he has authorized units to go as much as 15 per cent over strength to accommodate those who wish to join.

In particular, he states the Guard still needs aviators and aviation mechanics, medical personnel, and officers. A captain would make $148 a drill weekend, said Mier. Trooper report stated the Osmer car and the hit run vehicle were both moving south on the highway when the accident took place. The hit run vehicle was described as a "small, light colored station wagon." No injuries were involved. ERIE PLANT SHUTDOWN ERIE, Pa. (AP) Hammermill Paper Co. plans to shut down its plant here for a week because of a decline in orders.

A company spokesman said the move would affect 90 per cent of the plant's 1,550 employes. It will be the second time this year that Hammermill has curtailed operations because of lagging orders. Tlie shutdown is scheduled for the week March 30 April 6. w. G.

Born Jan. 7, 1896, in Delianova, Italy, Province of Reggio Calabria, she was the daughter of Anthony and Dominica Stilo Ruffo. She came to the United States in 1913, and on Oct. 5 of that year was married in St. Bernard Church to Joseph Frisina, who survives.

Mrs. Frisina was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Bradford. In addition to her husband she is survived by five sons, Ralph of Wellington, Anthony and Joseph Jr. of Bradford, Dr.

D. Robert of Rochester, N.Y. and Dr. Carl Frisina of Chicago, two daughters, Amelia, Frisina and Mrs. Florence Gorton of Bradford; 21 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Friends may call after 7 jn. today at the Galati Funeral Home, Bradford, where an 8:30 ajtn. Wednesday prayer service will be followed by a 9 am. Funeral Mass in St. Francis of Assisi Church.

Members of UAW Local 1282 authorized the strike Sunday after a contract deadline passed without a new agreement. The Cerro plant, which fabricates copper and brass, has a workforce of 918. Local 1282 President Marlin Fisher said contract language and an economic package are the main issues in the dispute. He added that talks would continue with a federal mediator. BEAVER SALE DATE: MARIENVILLE A large turnout is expected Saturday for the 1975 edition of the Forest County Sportsmen's Beaver Sale, to be held on the club grounds just south of Marienville on Route 66.

A club spokesman said the sale will get underway around 9 a jn. this year. Fur trappers and traders from a four state area generally are in attendance at the event. KUSHEQUA ACCIDENT Vehicle damaged was listed in excess of at Kushequa lateSalur3ay afternoon when a vehicle operated by Paul Blubaugh, 22, of Verona, struck a parked vehicle owned by Ronald Irons, 40, of Stow, Ohio. Blubaugh told police he was blinded by the sun and did not see the parked vehicle.
