State ran up a 12-0 lead in the first period which appeared safe TUSCALOOSA, Oct. 27 (AP)Statistics Miss. Alabama fool- ball Miss.

Quarterback Bill Stacy, the brilliant State sophomore, scored the Maroons' second touchdown on a 22-yard sprint after Frank Sabbatini put the visitors out in front by tallying on a one-yard plunge. Stacy was hurt early in the fourth period and was not in the game when Bama made the deciding points. Alabama carried Coach J. B.

Whitworth Reeves off the field at the end of the game. State started as if they would make it a runaway, going 59 yards in six plays to score with the opening kickoff. The chief gain was a 36-yard dash by halfback Mollie Halbert with a pitchout from Stacy. The next one came just a few minutes later and it was 12. 0 with only 10 minutes gone.

After that, both teams were bothered by penalties and fumbles and State apparently lost its offensive punch with Stacy's injury. Max, Kelley, Alabama's big fullback, was the day's with 79 yards in 19 carries. Stacy netted 81 in 12 carries. The Walls Bowdoin pass for 'Bama's first score came with just 1:25 left in the first half. The drive went 75 yards in nine plays.

Line standouts included center Jimmy Dodd for State and guard Billy Rains for Alabama. About 26,000 homecoming day fans were on hand. Miss. State, had started Alabama's long losing streak on this same field with an upset 12-7 victory in October, 1954. Miss.

After three downs, Woodson broke through Spartan's right tackle and raced 70 yards to score. boot was good and the score was tied 13-13. In the last five minutes of the game, Woodson took a screen pass from quarterback Bill Offembecher and sped 82 yards for the clincher. Tom Haller converted.

27 (P) -Hitting receivers with the accuracy of a mountaineer rifleman, little Johnny Majors threw three touchdown passes today to KNOXVILLE. A crowd of 33,500 saw the great Tennessee tailback connect on six of nine passes for 90 yards and pick up 53 additional yards on 12 rushes.

His chief target was end Buddy Cruze, who grabbed three passes for 32 yards and one touchdown. The scoring toss covered six yards. Maryland rolled up 202 yards rushing and 148 on 11 completed passes for a total of 350 yards but the Terrapins couldn't muster any scoring punch.

Their touchdown was a virtual gift. With the ball on the Tennessee six where the Vols had halted a Maryland drive, tailback Al Carter dropped back to kick. The old Big Ten foes, who tied 20-20 last year, alternated touchdowns before 41,000 fans all afternoon, but Purdue missed the extra point after the game's final touchdown. It was a case of Iowa's brilliant broken field runners especially Bill Happel and Don Dobrino, against the pinpoint passing of Purdue's Lenny Dawson, who had the misfortune to miss the extra point that made the difference. Iowa gained 290 yards rushing to Purdue's 163. Purdue gained 242 yards passing to Iowa's 59. The loser had 21 first downs to the winner's 17, AUBURN, Oct.

27- P- The Auburn Tigers wasted more scoring chances than they made, good but still had enough for a 12-0 victory today over Houston University. Auburn rolled up an impressive yardage total and hogged the ball most of the game. But an unyielding Cougar defense stopped the Tigers three times on downs and AUBURN, Oct. 27 (AP)-Statistics of the Houston-Auburn game: Houston Auburn First Downs 26 Rushing Yardage 100 326 Passing Yardage 73 100 Passes 4-10 8-21 Passes Intercepted By 1 Punts 0-0 Fumbles Lost Yards Penalized 25 once on a pass all inside the 20. The first Auburn touchdown came on the last play of the second quarter when quarterback Jimmy Cook threw a 15 yard scoring pass to wingman Jerry Sansom in the end zone.

The scorling drive, which got going on a 40- yard spring by halfback Tommy Lorino, covered 73 yards in SIX plays. Howell Tubbs tried the extra point, but Houston center Dick McKinney blocked it. The Tigers drove 80 yards in the final period and wound up with a first down on the one. It took four plays to score. Halfback Bobby Hoppe went over from the five after Auburn had been penalized for offsides.

End Jerry Elliott's conversion attempt was wide. Houston halted Auburn touchdown drives on the 19 in the first quarter, on the one the second period and on the six in fourth quarter. Another drive died in the fourth when Cougar halfback Joe Bob Smith intercepted quarterback Frank Riley's pass on the goal line. Auburn's halfback Tommy Lorino piled up 104 yards rushing. Fullback Jim Walsh accounted for another 100 yards.

The Tigers didn't have to punt during the game. The Cougars, threatened twice, but the Tigers stopped each drive. Three quick first downs in the second period carried the ball 44 yards to the Tiger 27 but the drive ran out of fuel and Auburn got the ball on downs. In the third quarter, Lorino intercepted quarterback Don Flynn's pass on the Tiger 16. It was the first pass interception of the season for the Auburn team which went into the game rated sixth best in the nation in pass defense.

Auburn got a first down on the 4 in the second period and twice rushed down to the without scoring. Cook fired a four down pass to end Jimmy Phillips but he was stopped dead a yard away from scoring territory. The Tigers rolled up 326 yards rushing while holding the Cougars to 100 and added another 100 on the passing of Cook and Frank Riley. Houston's aerials covered 73 yards. Houston 0000 Auburn 0 6 0 6-12 Syracuse Ronips By Boston 21-7 BOSTON, Oct. 27 Brown did all the Syracuse scoring today as the Orangemen overcame an early Boston University lead for a 21-7 football victory. Unknowns Pace Princeton 32-21 Win Over Cornell ITHACA, N. Oct. 27 -P- Hewes Agnew made two great runs and four touchdowns and Ron Nelson contributed a brilliant scoring dash as Princeton whipped Cornell, 32-21, in a game dominated by players who weren't even supposed to be on the team. The victory was Princeton's fifth and the fifth straight defeat for Cornell. The stars were three players.

Oct. 27-m Wake Forest, completely outplayed for nearly three quarters, swept 96 yards for a touchdown in the final period to gain a 6-6 tie with rival North Carolina today in an Atlantic Coast Conference game before a rain soaked crowd of 27,000.

North Carolina controlled the ball the first half, moving to the Wake Forest 13 and again to 3. But the Tar Heels weren't able to score until midway in the third quarter.
