August 25. 2006 B-5 URE Hospital breaks ground for new building Logan Memorial Hospital has already begun construction for a 12,000 square foot building to be located between the present two medical facilities on campus. The new office building will house up to eight physicians and is scheduled for completion in early 2007. The $2.3 million project is under the direction of local contractor, Circle Construction.

Logan Memorial Hospital is made up of over 50 active and consulting physicians and over 200 employees. Over $10 million was paid by the hospital in salary and benefits to those employees in 2005. The hospital is nearing completion on a 13-month expansion and renovation project mainly focused within the Diagnostic Imaging and Surgery departments. That projects price tag is over $5 million, and is expected to wrap up by the end of 2006. The parent company of Logan Memorial is LifePoint Hospital, Inc.

is focused on providing healthcare services in non-urban communities. GriefShare is a special seminar and group geared towards people who are grieving the loss of someone close.

The seminar features Biblical teachings on grief and recovery topics and will be held on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. The group is sponsored by people who want to help those grieving by offering comfort and encouragement and who understand the experience. During the session, those attending will see a video that features top experts on the subject, on-location settings and real-life stories of people who have experienced similar situations. After the video, group discussion will be held and attendees will be able to interact with others about their loss and also share their own experiences. Those wishing to attend do not have to be a member of Southern Heights.

Students earn this designation by achieving a 4.0 grade point average all four years of high school and scoring at least a 28 composite on the ACT.

As Senator Jeff Green scholars, they are eligible for $2,500 a year in Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) awards. Students may receive up to $10,000 toward their college expenses if they continue to do well in school. The title honors the late' State Senator Jeff Green of Mayfield, who served in the General Assembly from 1992 to 1997. Local students who earned this prestigious designation are: Russellville High School: Benjamin Kees of Russellville. Logan County High School: David Jenkins of Quality, Mary Orange of Russellville and Kelli Woodward of Auburn.

KEES awards are funded by net Kentucky lottery proceeds and may be used at most colleges and universities in Kentucky. In some cases, the award may be used at out-of-state schools if the major the student is pursuing is not available iri Kentucky. Both the school and surrounding area were evacuated and officials conducted a search of the school building. No evidence of a bomb was found.
