George S. Attmore, a prominent citizen of this place, died at his residence on Saturday evening last. Mr. fcingleton obtained the floor, but yielded it for a motion that the House proceed to vote for a Speaker. IJr. Editor: Perhaps your readers would like to hear a word jot two from old New England, the supposed Sevastopol of abolitionism, humanitarian-ism and reformers generally.

Since the writer was in your town he has been often tempted to drop you a line, endeared to the place as he is by the most pleasant associations, and wishing to say so to your citizens generally, he deem this method a. proper one "also knowing your proclivities for such matter as will make your paper interesting to its readers by its truth and good sense, and having an abundance of the former now on hand, leaving you and your readers tq judge of the latter, I shall now proceed at once, having opened the way. What more interesting subject can I speak of than the present crisis Is it not one in which we all are deeply concerned Most assuredly for on this iss'ue depends our national glory, peace, and prosperity. Truly the law-abiding" union loving conservative men of the country may well watch, with zealous eye, the growing restlessness, the spirit of fanaticism, the political insanity with which so many prominent minds seem deeply imr bued. They may well take steps towards converting the terrible calamity whicji those discontents seem bent upon, which is the rupture of the federal compact, the annihilation of our glorious Constitution and the undermining of that political structure! which was built by our venerated ferefathers at the price of blood and upon the graves of those who laid down their lives, that we President of the Newbern Branch of that institution.
