McPher-son's home. A short business meetipg presided over by Miss Kathryn Walliss, preceded the program. After the pictures tea was served by Mrs. McPherson. The tea table was adorned with a white lace tablecloth and spring flowers.

Pouring were Miss Walliss and Mrs. Ethel-bert Lukens. There she was a feature corres Cyrus Collings-Bobetta Selway Nuptials Held The marriage of Mrs. Bobetta Selway of 516 May street to Cyrus P. Collings of Lockhart Gulch took place in Nevada Saturday.

The bridegroom's sister was their only attendant The new Mrs. Collings is worthy matron of Idlewild chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and is with the Santa Cruz credit bureau. Her husband is a local photographer. The couple is expected to return to Santa Cruz today. Sunshine Club Has Potluck Luncheon Loretta Wessell, president, pre-sided at a meeting of the Sewing club held at the home Veda Chesnutt on Thursday.

Preceding the meeting a covered 'dish luncheon was enjoyed wfth jMrs. Maud Brown and Mrs. Creola Dale assisting. 4 At the business meeting it was voted to donate $5 to the March of Dimes drive. Cheer cards were sent to several sick members.

It was announced that the next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Maud Brown, 207 May street, Feb. 15 with Maud Burchett and Mrs. Dale assisting. Following the business meeting, the members worked on towels.

In a flower guessing game Mrs. Wessell was the winner. Those present at the meeting were Cleo Bower, Mrs. Chesnutt, Mrs. Burchett, Kate Burnett, Olive Box, Mary Blake, Mrs.

Dale. Mabel Frey, Mary Paldi, Etha Rostron, Edith Smith, Eloise Stewart-, Mrs. Wessell, Christine Turner, Elinore Willhof, Mrs. Brown and Sara Wolfe. AAUW Book Group Meets Wednesday The AAUW Library section will meet Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs.

Frank Anderson, 1808 Bay street. Mrs. Anderson will review the book, "Mao Tse-tung" by Robert Payne. The author, who is English, spent the war years in China teaching English at a Chinese university. He is now teaching at Alabama college.

Lena Mae Struble presided, with all the officers in their chairs for the first time since installation. During the business session which preceded the Valentine's Earty, two applications for mem-ership were received. An invitation was read from San Benito Circle in Hollister to attend the official visit Mondy of the grand chief companion, Aimie Decker. It was announced that' a card party will be held February 15 with the following committee in charge: Matilda Joris, chairman; Ruth Pedemonte, Helen Griffin and Etta Bowell. Committees were appointed for the year as follows: auditing Lorraine Nelson, chairman; Ruth Pedemonte, Maude Quiggle, and Etta Welborn; finance Lorraine Nelson, chairman; Etta Bowell and Lena Pedemonte; arbitration Peggy Burns, Catherine Mullins, Maud Murphy, Betty Metcalf, Nina Johnson, Grace Kennedy and La-vina Elan; delinquent Helen Griffin, Let Hawley and Matilda Joris.

Announcement was made that pals will exchange gifts at the next regular meeting, March 15. Like the lodge hall, the. banquet room was decorated in the Valentine theme. Heart-shaped cakes were served, made and donated by Ruth Pedemonte, Mary Caracci and Etta Bowell. Others on the refreshment committee were Mary Caracci, Lena Mae Struble and Lorraine Nelson.

All of the paper decorations were contributed by Violet Miller. Corsages, using the Circles colors of red, white and blue, were made for each member by Lena Mae Struble, Mary Caracci and Lorraine Nelson. Boulder Creek Art Section Meeting Views Paintings A varied program was presented at the meeting of the Art section of the Woman's Study club of the meeting of the Art section of the Woman's Study club of Boulder Creek Friday at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Larrabee. Copies of pictures by Raoul Dufy, French abstract artist, were shown.

Some excellent enlarged photographs taken by Jack Combs, Mrs. May Mueller's son-in-law, were also displayed. Mrs. Larrabee read an article about Jimmy Swinnerton, noted Western landscape artist. It told how Swinnerton began his "Little Jimmy" cartoon strip 59 years ago and how he became interested in painting western scenery.

Guests present were Mrs. D. Grasse and Mrs. E. Kenville.

Refreshments were served following the program. The next regular meeting will be held February 8 at 2 p. m. in the social hall of the Boulder Creek community church, when Mrs. Lillian Huebner, state art chairman, will be guest of honor.

Members are asked to bring antiques and art objects. Guests are invited. Birthdays Honored At Starlight Club At the meeting of the- Starlight club Friday night at the home of Mrs. Ed Smith, 927 Sumner street, the birthday anniversaries of Mrs. Earl Wood and Chester Heitz were celebrated.

It was announced that $15 raised from a benefit luncheon had been donated to the March of Dimes. The club is planning a progressive dinner, card party and box social for the near future. The next meeting will be February 17 at the home of Mrs. Earl Wood. Articles of incorporation for the Santa Cruz Business Professional Women are now completed, President Muriel Keesler announced today.

The papers, signed by Mrs. Keesler and Miss Lucy Hicks, were presented to the local organization by District Attorney June Borina. They were drawn in order that the club could purchase a lot on Chestnut street to be cleared through escrow by Miss Annie McCaskill, member of the building committee. The regular monthly business meeting will be held tomorrow night at 7:30 at the YWCA. Reports will be heard on the recent Bay District conference.

Federation orientation and participation in civilian defense will also be discussed. Fuchsia Society Arranges Next Meeting For March 2 The next meeting of the Santa Cruz branch of the American Fuschia society will be held March 2, it was announced at the regular session held Friday night in the council chambers of the city hall. Speakers Friday were Mrs- Cas-sie Desmond, a charter member of the branch, who spoke on pruning, and William Rowald, who described the customs of the Hopi and Navajo Indians of Arizona. American Legion Auxiliary Receives Unit Citation President Jerry Hogan of the American Legion Auxiliary, unit 64, announced at a meeting Friday night that citations for past President Harriet Cavanagh and the unit for excellent work during the year 1949-50 had been received from the department office. A donation of $10 was also voted to be given to the entertainment fund of a Bay Area veterans hospital.

BAY VIEW The first Founder's Day program in the new Bay View school building will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. Past presidents will be honored and a short business meeting is planned. WHO'S NEW CLUB Mrs. C. H.

Silva, a graduate of the navy personnelman school at San Diego, was home last week on a lOlay leave prior to flying to Janpan for further assignment. He is the son of Mrs. Ida Silva of 611 Seabright avenue. Visitors yesterday at the home of Mrs. Nellie Swanson, 222 Walk Circle, were Mrs.

William Butler of Oakland and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williams of Oak Grove and their two children. Mrs. Williams is Mrs.

"capsule The Santa Cruz chapter of the American Association of University Women will combine with the chapters from Salinas, Watsonville and Los Gatos for a luncheon at 1 o'clock February 17 at Loma Linda on the Watsonville highway.

Dr. Mira Gavrilovich, the only woman judge in pre-war Yugoslavia, will be the feature speaker. Dr. Gravrilovich was the first woman in her country to receive the degree of doctor of laws. She also was one of the founders of the Association of University Women in Zagreb, Yugoslavia.

As the wie of a professional diplomat, she lived in France, Italy, Austria; Hungary and visited Greece, Palestine, Egypt, French North Africa, Malta, Spain, Germany and other countries. In 1938 Dr. Gavrilovich came to the United States as wife of the Yugoslav consul to New York. Hassayampa Council Chiefs Ceremony At Hassayampa council, 128 degree of Pocahontas, held a raising of chiefs Friday at the Native Sons hall with Barbara Grace presiding. Those installed at there stations were Pauline Schneider, Pocahontas; "Jessie Fitch, Wenonah; Mrs.

Grace, prophetess; Gus Jacobson, Powhatan; Winifred Carney, guard of the tepee; Florence Howard, guard of the forest; Jennie Brazil, musician; Edith Cone, second scout; Ann Harrell and Edith House, first and second runners; Nan Griffith, first ajde; May Harrell and Lillian Johnson, first and second councilors; Margaret Harrell and Addie Cowden, first and second warriors; and others acting protems for those absent. The installing staff consisted of Past Great Pocahontas Hazel Shire-man from Watsonville, Past Great Pocahontas Margaret Booth from San Francisco, Great Guard of the Tepee Eva Clark and brother R. Laveaga Group To Meet Wednesday The Laveaga home demonstration group will meet Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the agricultural extension building, 555 Ocean street. At this meeting the first in a series by Miss Helen Edwards on personal improvement will be presented. Emphasis will be placed on selection of line and design becoming to each woman.

Samples of various necklines and sleeves will be available for each woman to try on. Refreshments will be served by Mrs. J. G. McCarthy, Mrs.

L. F. Engle, Mrs. Grace Reynolds and Mrs. Mable Tonjum.

Antoinette Neri -Feted At Shower Anntonette Neri was the guest of honor at a surprise stork shower held at the home of Mrs. Victoria Sani. The co-hostess were Elvira Neri and Victoria Sani. A large basket was decorated in pink and blue to hold the gifts, and there was a stork in the center of the cake, Games were enjoyed and refreshments were served. Those attending were Diana Din-elli, Ida Bacgiacchi, Emma Bacg-iacchi, Eda Donenici, Andreana Rodoni, Alaide Petroni, Alaide Rossi, Caroline Bosso, the guest of honor and the co-hostesses.

Those sending gifts but unable to attend included Rene Rinaldi and Maria Rinaldi. Soropti mists Have 'Play Day' Fun Wednesday was "play day" at the Soroptimist club, that being traditional for the fifth meeting of the month. Members broueht "white elephants" and there was much merriment over the opening of Winnifred Stepick and Pearl Mc-Farland of the Watsonville club were guests. Mrs. Clarence Robison will bring some of her large collection of dolls to the club Wednesday and tell "The Story of Dolls." Guests are welcome at the meeting.

Friendship Circle Class Spends Social Evening The Friendship Circle class of the Garfield Park Christian church met last week for a social evening in Childers hall. In charge of games and refreshments for the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Williams and Mr. and Mrs.

Loren Sco-field. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Philip Mack, Mr. and Mrs.

William Nunes, Mrs. Robert Toner, Mr. and Mrs. C. E.

Camerzell, Ruth Frazier, Scofield and Mr. and Mrs. Williams. GRACE WSCS Harmony circle, Women's Society for Christian Service of the Grace Methodist church has postponed the luncheon to be given at the church from Tuesday until Feb. 13 at noon.

Gavrilovich moved to Los An geles in 1949, three years after her husband, Oscar Gavrilovich, had resigned as consul general of Yugo slavia in New York, for. political reasons. President of the Women's Inter national club of Los Angeles which is sponsored by AAUW, member of the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents association and the International Women's Lawyers association, Dr. Gavrilovich is well known as a lecturer. At present she is engaged in writing a book.

Holds Raising Of Friday Meeting Clark, both from San Francisco, Alice Evas, Ethel Coots, Rose Silva, Betty Taylor, Louise French, Ida East, Rose Fatoda, Anna Welch from Watsonville and Anna Harrell, Alta Kirchen, Rebecca Pacini from the local council. In the absence of the council's deputy Louise Bettencourt, Past Great Pocahontas Hazel Shireman was the deputy protem for the evening. The escort team directed by Edith House consisted of eight members who were Mrs. Harrell, Mrs. Grace Mrs.

Carney, Mrs. Howard, Ann Harrell, Mrs. Cowden, Rebecca Pacini and-Mrs. House. They formed an archway for the Pocahontas Pauline Schneider and the deputy protem Hazel Shireman to pass under to receive the oath and proper station.

Corsages and flowers were presented to the incoming Pocahontas. Congratulations were spoken by the deputy to Mrs. Schneider and Mrs. Grace. Mrs.

Shireman presented a gift to the council to help raise funds for their wampum. It was learned that the Great Pocahontas Marcella Rice has lost 269 members the first part of her term and it was suggested for all councils to build up their membership by acquainting others with the fraternity. Pictures of the installation were taken by Clark for the Great Pocahontas remembrance book during her term. The hall was decorated with heather by Mrs. House and Margaret Harrell.

Table decorations were made by Winifred Carney and Florence Howard. They were Valentine hearts for favors. A large cake with the words inscribed "congratulations Pauline" was served to those present by the committee, Anna Harrell and Mrs. Grace. The next meeting will be a Valentine party held Friday February 9 at the Native Sons hall at 8 o'clock, and all members are urged to attend.

Mountain ills Will Fete Anniversary February 16 The Mountain Jills club will celebrate its birthday anniversary February 16 at 8 at the home of Mrs. Monte Kirk. Two new members will be taken into the club, and. there will be revealing of secret pals. This program was planned at the club's meeting Friday night at the home of Mrs.

Lee Brown on the old San Jose road. It was also planned to hold the annual dinner at the Santa Cruz hotel February 12, with a theater party afterwards. After the business session cards were played. Winners were Mrs. George Casalegno, Mrs.

Howard Walker and Mrs. Thurman Allred. Refreshments were served. PASATIEMPO VISITORS Mr. and Mrs.

George R. Hansen of Pasatiempo have had as their guests the past month Hansen's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hansen from Joplin, Montana. They plan to return next winter.

CONGREGATIONAL WOMEN The Congregational Women's club will meet tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. Luncheon will be served at 12:15 by the Mission Hill group. Mrs. Malcolm White, a missionary from China, will be the guest speaker. PRACTICAL NURSES The Practical Nurses association will meet Wednesday night at 7 o'clock at Hackley Hall.

An agent from the social security office in San Jose will be the main speaker. PLANS CHANGED The Branciforte program for February 16 will not feature an oxygen demonstration by Har-ley Anthis, as was previously announced. Anthis has not been able to secure the demonstration movie. PYTHIAN SISTERS A card party is planned by the Pythian Sisters for tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at Native Sons hall. The regular meeting of the sewing club is scheduled for all-day Wednesday at the home of Violet Newby.

A dish and dime luncheon will follow. At the afternoon session Mrs. Earl Menker of Oakland, promotion secretary of the WSCS of the California-Nevada conference will be the speaker. Mrs. Menker has recently returned from South American, where she visited many mission stations.

Mrs. Vera Osborne, president, will preside at the business meeting.
