Bob Cleveland of a Antonio won die Hondo Golf Club's seventh annual Labor Day Invitational Tournament last weekend, Cleveland throttled a rally by Ralph Arrendendo of Kerrville to win the championship 3-2 Monday afternoon on rain-soaked a i r- ways. Cleveland itaned strong and moved out 3 up over young Arrendendo. However, the Kerrville golfer rallied to pull within 1 up of Cleveland on the 13th hole. Under mounting tension, the pair halved the 14di after Arrendondo blew a chance to tie the match by missing a short putt.

The ball hung on the Up of the cup but wouldn't fall. The San Antonio golfer played steady golf on the 15th and 16th holes to move ahead up. Arrendondo seemed shaken after missing the easy putt on the 14th, and the hot pace he had set earUer cooled. Arrendondo could have halved the 16th with Cleveland by sinking another Aort putt, but he missed it to go down 3-2, Just to prove to himself that he could make the putt, Arrendondo sunk it twice in quick succession after the match was over. Cleveland took a small trophy home with him, but left his name on two handsome trophies which will remain in the local club house.

Both of the latter trophies were provided by pros; one by former club pro Chat. Finger, and the other by the current club pro, gii Krenmueller. Dr. John Jennings of Hondo played in the championship flight, and after dropping his Mrs. Glenn Keller and Terry visited Mrs.

Fans dropping by the football field will be in for an extra treat since the Owl band will play its HemisFair concert beginning at 6:45. Coach J.

Viertcl said the scrimmage will begin at 7:30. Scotch foursome play set Sunday Hondo Golf Club will hold its monthly Scotch foursome Sunday. Tee off time is 2 p. and following nine holes of play, refreiiments will be served. The event is held the second Sunday of each month, with both men and women golfers participating.

With the start of school Tuesday, the grid- ders are down to their tegular season practice routine of once a day. The Owl coaching staff faces a rebuilding task this year, and didn't begin practice with any hopes of flnishing very high in the standings.
