Dickey was greatly moved by the nation ten-fold in its educational output. In 1943, and also prior to this date, Negro universities and colleges felt the cruel sting of financial difficulties and it seemed to nany Negro college president that they would have to close the doors of their institutions to thousands of Negro youth who depend upon them.

In the same year, a man sat in a quite room overlooking the campus created by Booker T. Washington, gravely pondering his school's financial situation. It seemed to him that to close the school would be a dismal way to round out almost a century of useful achievement. So concerned was this great that he mortgaged his house to pur chase the 30-acre site of Lincoln Uni versity in the first Negro college implanted cn U. S. ground. Ironically enough, 100 years later in 1954, the highest court in the land reached a decision as inevitable as it was momentous, when nine U. S.

Supreme Court justices told the nation that segregation in public schools was unconstitutional and must go. The years 1854 and 1954 were quite magnanimous for the Negro but the vast span of time in between this country saw many things happen in fields of Negro education. In 1865, Atlanta University wit-nesed its first movement as an institution of higher learning when two ex-slaves, eager to share their spare knowledge opened up two schools, one in a church and the ether in an abandoned box car, which was later rolled on its own wheels to the present university site. ip Talladega's first classes were held in Old Swayne Hall which still stands on its Alabama campus. Walking along a Brooklyn street he came upon a woman who had just collapsed and fallen to the ground. Questioning her, he learned that she was a TB out-patient, and has been receiving treatment at a hospital.

What his training 'meant to two other people prompted the American Red Cross to invite him to tell his story during the organiza tions 75th Anniversary Convention in St. Louis. Interviewed there by Ted Malone, well-known radio commentator, on a program called, This is Your Red Cross, Walker told on August 18, 1953, how he passed a Brooklyn intersection a few minutes after a hit-and-run driver had knocked down a pedestrian. When he arrived on the scene a 'policeman was struggling to keep crowds back from the' victim, who was suffering from a severe head injury and a broken leg. WORD MEANS LITTLE From the pulpit, in the classroom and on the pages of the religious publications, we hear and read the word saved" and Saviour. To some these words mean little. From what does man need to he "saved by a "Saviour? Ceitainly there is no denying that sin has left its trail of suffering from the beginning of time until now. Man, acting alone, cannot rid himself of sin, which is wrong doing. Only man, plus a loving Heavenly Father, can turn himself about rid himself of evil habits, and actions.

God the Father knows this and loving his creatures as he did, he was willing to go to sny length to provide the remedy for sin Jesus, the Son of God, who smptying himself and becoming a little lower than the angels became subject to the suffering of death by the grace of 'God, he might taste death for every man. a gainst tax exemptions for the NAACP, members of the Citizens Councils of Alabama have been urged by a pro-spgregation leader to write their congressmen urging hem to take action against the NAACPs tax situation This is very important, the letter continued and will go a long way toward cutting off NAACP income if the NAACP is denied tax exempt donations. Hebrews 5:9.

TEXT: Hebrews Last week in our study of the Epistle to the Hebrews, we studied the authors contention that Jesus is the Son of God emphasizing the deity of Jesus. Our lesson for this week will emphasize his saviourhood. The writer points out that, in response to mans need, Jesus, who was the very Son- of God, became incarnate in human flesh and bore the penalty for mans sin through his death on the cross. Even though he was the Son of God, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, he was willing to experience the greatest humiliation in order to achieve salvation for sinful men. In this way, the Captain of our salvation was made perefet through sufferings; that is, he completed his redemptive work.

He became like us in order that we might become like him. The writer of Hebrews declares that Jesus is our great High Priest and is comparing him with the Hebrew high priest, which as the Hebrews knew, in Old Testament times offered sacrifices in the tabernacle and later in the Temple at Jesu-salem for the sins of the people. Therefore, having then a great high priest, who hath passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession Our Great High Priest needs not daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices. for the sins of the people; for this he did once for all, when he offered up himself; that is when he died on the cross. LIFE STANDS UP The writer makes what must have seemed to the Jews of his.

day extravagant claims for Jesus and yet he could producer the proof necessary for his statements. The life of Jesus has stood up under the test of history. No other character has ever been subjected to such searching scrutiny as has his; no other life has ever been subjected to such exacting tests, no other person has ever received such universal approval. Match his life against that of any other person who ever llvpd and the comparison Immediate ly becomes impressive. The mother told authorities the motor had been removed from the box an dthat it had been used for the last week by a neigboring family for storage of ice.
