Neptune ment. Brian Taylor, a 6-foot-2 has Marv Becker, a slow 6- junior who scored 84 points in foot-10 center. St Peter's Orange Champs ATLANTIC CITY-Don Bosco will be after its seventh State title and East Rutherford will be seeking the third consecutive Group 1 championship for a Bergen County team, when the NJSIAA tournament concludes today at Convention Hall.

Coach Richie O'Brien's Dons last won the Parochial A title in 1966 after finishing second the year before. Other championships came in 1928-29-34-36-44. Don Bosco takes the floor at 2:30 p. m. against unbeaten Trenton Cathedral, the defending champion.

East Rutherford, coached by Dick Vitale, meets South Brunswick at 7:30 p. m. in an attempt to follow successful final round performances by last year's Leonia team and a Park Ridge club of two seasons ago. The Wildcats seek their first State title. The Dons and Wildcats are the only Bergen clubs remaining in the tourney, which began one month ago with 182 teams and has been narrowed to 14.

Going into tonight's finals, Hudson County leads Bergen, 43-42, in total championships since the event began in 1919. Hudson County has three clubs in the running, two from Union City Emerson and Ed Ruhno, Samogyi broke loose for 22 in the second half, When Ruhno collected his fourth personal foul in the opening minutes of the third quarter, it was all Samogyi needed as he poured in 13 points during Ruhno's absence to start the Cardinals on their way to the uphill victory. Samogyi wound up the season with 1.190 points in 28 games, getting 3,310 for his four-year career which spanned 99 games. Despite Samogyi's scoring heroics, it was 6-foot-5 senior forward Gary Ward who proved to be the difference in the hectic final quarter. Hitting six straight free throws, Ward scored io of the Cards' last 17 points to lead the way to victory.

After trailing all the way, Ward finally knotted the game at 56-56 with 2:10 to play when he sank a pair of foul shots. A technical foul called on the Hilltoppers Frank La-bonia for kicking Ward on the play was then taken by Samogyi and he didn't miss. Another basket by Ward, two free throws by Ward and a steal by Samogyi wrapped it up as the New Brunswick team annexed its first Parochial crown. The Cards were runnersup last year. TOURNEY TOPICS Tommy Delia Torre of Hackensack was the referee in the first game.

Samogyi had 17 of his points in the third quarter as he helped the Cards wipe out a 10-point deficit. It marked the second time this season the Cardinals had come from 10 points down to spill the Elizabeth quintet. By MARK RUSKIE Stiff Writer ATLANTIC CITY Emerson of Union City's bid to become Hudson County's 43rd NJSIAA basketball champion fell short last night as the Bulldog title express was derailed by unbeaten Orange, 64-56, before 6,913 at Convention Hall. In annexing their first Group 3 diadem, the Hoddy Mahon-coached Tornadoes reeled off their 27th win in a row. Emerson was 26-3.

With all-time state scholastic scoring king John Somogyi netting 32 points, St. Peter's of New Brunswick trimmed St. Mary's of Elizabeth, 63-59. in the Parochial opener. The Cardinals (24-4) did it the hard way, coming from behind in the second half to overhaul the Hill-toppers (17-10), Orange had just too much rebounding strength for the smaller Emerson quintet in the nightcap.

It was rare when the Bulldogs were able to get off more than one shot at a time against the high-stepping Tornadoes. The Bulldogs compounded their troubles by usually blowing what good scoring opportunities they did get, missing easy layuos time after time. Even with captain Bob Butts sitting out a good part of the second half with four fouls. Orange had little trouble controlling both boards. Desoite the 39-23 edge in rebounds, however, Orange didn't really pull away from fie game Bulldogs until the final quarter when the fast-hreakins Tornadoes finally wore tfnwn the losers.

The Bullrloes only trailed 54-4! with a litttemore than four minutes to play when Orange put the title on ice with the next eicht points as Butts contributed five. Until th" late Orange spurt, Fmrnn had stayed with the Tornadoes, thanks to a strong flnnr gam" hv senior Ted Mar-t'nuk. Martinnk was th cjmp's Min scorer with 17 twin'. Cotmtee Hall had 16 and Butts 15 for Orange. Stop Somogyi and you stop Today's Schedule 'i St, Anthony's (Jersey Cityl vs.
