HL was a good father, a kind husband, and a deTontxnieinber of his chnrch. In their sad bereavement it is a of great consolation to his family that fo a few weeks before his death he fully realized to himself his end was approach ing and was wholly resigned with God's holy will. He was fortified by the sacred rites of his church, and it can be truly said of him that his exemplary death waa in keeping with the edifying life he led. The large number of people who accompanied his remains to the Catholic Church, New Bethlehem, tesii fiesto the esteem in wbjch he was held in. the community.

The shrill whistle of tbe engine showed that something bad happened and tbe backing up of the train to the station and unloading an apparently lifeless form appeared to verify the report.

The man proved to be Edward Miller, who livesa mile below town, who waa stretched out npon a board nn- conscions, suffering from some ngly cats about tbe bead. Ha recovered in an honr, and was able to walk borne in tbe evening. He was sitting upon the end ot a tie when the train came along, and was not Been in time to keep the front part of tbe engine from striking them. He did not jnst know where be was when he wns struck, nor for an honr afterward.
