HAMLET SHUFFLE NEW YORK (UPI) Local Hamlets got a fast shuffle Wednesday night. Alfred Ryder, who opened in the title role of Shakespeare's tragedy in Central Park Tuesday, was unable to go on Wednesday night because of Ihe Lighter Side By DICK WEST United Press International WASHINGTON (UPI) If you have any urchins in the doll-playing or bracket, beware There is a conspiracy afoot to undermine both your solvency and your sanity. I stumbled upon the plot one evening this week when dropped in on an exhibit of 1964 Christmas toys that Mattel, was previewing for dealers in this area. The things I saw and heard that night made my blood run cold.

They're gaining up on us, fellow parents, and there's no place to hide. Let us assume, to snatch a figure out of thin air, that you have a young daughter who is costing you $100,000 a year for clothing. If your daughter is anything like mine, they money is allocated as for her and $60,000 for her barbie dolls. But ere another Yuletide rolls around that ratio, I fear, no longer will prevail. Next year's clothing budget likely will be something on the order of $40, 000 for your daughter and $85, 000 for Barbie.

Yes, friends, the Mattel peo pie are bringing out an entire new wardrobe for Barbie and her friends. Shoes, dresses, hats, furs, -wigs, accessories. The works. Also a new line of Barbie furniture with a new and larger "dream house" to put it in. Plus six travel outfits.

Plus six "little theater" costumes. And that isn't all. Barbie now has a little sister named Skipper, who has a complete wardrobe of her own. Disaster impends unless you can persuade your daughter to open a nudist colony. More.

Diabolical The plot against parents of young boys is even more diabolical. Many toy stores this Christmas will feature a new line of bicycles and tricycles called "V-Rroom!" These vehilces are equipped with a device that approximates the rear of a real mo-i tor. It endows even pre-school children with some of the ob noxious qualities of hot-rodders For those too young for tri cycles, there are toy trucks with "V-Rroom!" Brings the sound of the Indianapolis Speedway right into the home "And, worst of all, the devices will be available separately for installation on old bikes and trikes. I wish I could say there was some way to keep your kids from finding out about these things. Apparently there isn't.

The conspirators are employing the "saturation" technique to reach them. Every Saturday morning for 13 weeks before Christmas Barbie and "V-Rroom!" com mercials will be shown simul taneously on all three television networks. If that brainwash them, nothing will. The Commerce Department, in reporting the figures Tuesday, said the slackening was mainly in manufacturing wages.

May's advance raised personal income to a record annual rate of $485 billion $25 billion higher than a year ago, however.
