Mbs Susanna Boore, 'Vd 10 months and days. 4 On the 15th inst in this borough, Mari', daughter of Mr. Paul DolL aged 0 months tain, in Middlesex township, about a mile east of Ster refs Gap, went into the nioun-Uin to bunt a cow, and took his dog and gun Alter going some distance bis attention was called to his dog, which seemed to be engaged in a terntic encounter with some animal.

The dog ran off howling into the woods, and Air. Stoey then discovered a large wolf, and fired at it. The animal ran a few paces, and then fell to the ground. Mr.Stoey cautiously approached, hen the animal bprang to its feet, and uttering a hideous how ran up the mountain. Its call was answered by a dozen ions from various portions of the mountai side, and Stoey deemed it best to retreat within the limits of civilization as speedily as possible.

lie ran first to the tenant house oa the farm of John Elliot, E-q. but as none of the mn were home, be warned the females of their danger, aud ran to the house of Abm. Elliott, bhortly after he left the tenant bouse, Mrs. Bruwnawell, the tenants wile, says she heard the howling, and a pack, of ten or a dozen wolves came to the front ol the house. This mark of civilization seemed to puzzle them, and af ter pausing a minute or so, the leader gave another howl, and they started off again into the mountain.

hen the howling was first heard, Miss Rodgers, daughter of Dr. Rodgers, who resides in that locality, was in tiia mountain, picking berries and terrified at the danger which threatened her, she crept into the bushes as far as possible, and from her retreat saw the wolves running down the mountain. Dr. Rodgers, attracted by the noise, also saw them from the house, and all parties agree in fixing the number at ton or twelve 1 Dr. Rodgers says several of them seemed to be young.

A young lad who was driving home some cattle, related that he saw a lot of big dogs running across a field, and the family supposed it wns a pack of hounds in chase of a fox. The neighbors at once assembled, and scoured the mountain, but discovered no trace of the marauders. It would be a paying operation for some of our young mountaineers to capture the entire pack, for the premium is twelve dollars on every full grown wolf, and five dollars on every wolf pu pp J.
