A A SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA Friday, November 14, 1941 PAGE FOUR SANTA CRUZ SENTINEL, Reilly To Be Honored By Local Dinner George R. Reilly, district board of equalization chief, will be honored by a dinner at the St. George hotel December 2, it was announced yesterday by a group of his local friends. CHAIRMAN Mayor Ed Rich is general chairman of the committee in charge of the affair. Donald Younger is vice-chairman, Deputy District Attorney Stephen Wyckoff, secretary, and A.

Frank Schuppert, secretary of the Santa Cruz chamber of commerce, is treasurer and in charge of ticket sales. Tickets will be placed on sale during the coming week at the chamber office, and they can be secured also from committee members. Reservations can be made also at the St. George. Assisting Mayor Rich and the other officers will be a large committee of men and women prominent in every walk of life here.

The mayor said he expected the affair to be one of the most successful ever held in this commun- ity. TOUR "Commissioner Reilly," Mayor Rich said, "will be in this community for several days on an inspection tour, and has expressed the desire to meet and talk with people here. The dinner is being arranged for that purpose, and also to give Commissioner Reilly an opportunity to tell of the work being done by the state board in this area. Santa Cruz is vitally interested in certain phases of that work, and this will be an opportunity for us to hear about it. "I believe we should show our interest and express our appreciation by a record attendance at the dinner in Commissioner Reilly's honor.

I urge the people of Santa Cruz to attend and hear first-hand of just what the state board of equalization is trying to accomplish here in connection with important moral and social problems with which all of us are concerned." Mayor Rich explained ance at the affair will be limited, and he urged all those desiring to attend to secure their tickets, or make reservations early. He added an attractive program also has been arranged for the dinner party. Commissioner Reilly will be accompanied by Mrs. Reilly. Neutrality Repealed (Continued from Page 1, Column 2) The president's appeal was reinforced by a letter from Secretary Hull--who said the action was "absolutely essential to our national defense." His message was read in the closing half hour of debate by Representative McCormack.

Still another development with a possible bearing on the vote was a statement issued in early afternoon by General George C. Marshall, army chief of staff. In it he emphatically denied the war department was preparing an A. E. F.

to go to Africa or "other critical area." Reports of such an expedition had arisen from a disclosure by department officials that selective service trainees and national guardsmen were being asked if they were willing to enlist for regular three-year terms in the army and serve overseas. Marshall explained the army was seeking enough volunteers to man garrisons in offshore U. S. possessions and near Atlantic bases, and to relieve American marines and British forces in Iceland. Court Briefs Judge A.

The Canepas had spent three days mending their nets and had just gone out.

The shark was released from the net. The flesh and liver of this variety of shark is valueless, but on the Monterey side these large sharks are sold to fertilizer plants and are reduced to fertilizer. Canepa did catch about eight bone sharks and leopard sharks, three sea bass and some sole. It will take some time to repair the damage to the net. About 300 pounds of sea bass and some leopard and bone sharks were brought in to the General Fish corporation.

On Wednesday Mr. Lahmen landed two fish, such as he had not seen caught off the wharf and was informed, that the fish were small It took him about a half hour to land the two fish.
