Obituaries A2 TUESDat DECEMBER M. 2000 FREMONT TRIBUNf Robert Stevens WEST POINT Robert L. (Bob) Stevens, 68, of West Point died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, in his home. Stevens was bom April 2, 1932, in lw Vley.

He graduated from Holv Trinity High School Hartington. He served in uLed SteteXy frmn 1952-54 He started worldng as a postal clerk for United States PostalSemre 1960-He sereed as postmaster in Coleridge from 1979-85 and West Point from 1985-92, when he retired. He had the following positions with National Association of Postmasters of United States: Nebraska state president, national vice president of Kansas Nebraska Region; chairman of Nebraska State Legislative Committee; executive board and advisory board of Retired Postmasters. He was also recipient of Irene Barrett award for service to fellow postmasters. Stevens was a member of St.

Marys Catholic Church and involved in the school and community affairs. He served on Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist (E.M.E.), as an usher, lecturer, and Archdiocen Pastoral Council (A.P.C.) delegate and participated in Cursillo. He was president of East Catholic School Board at Bow Valley and Cedar Catholic Development committee in Hartington. He was board member and chairman of St Francis Hospital Board in West Point and mvolved in ere- 1 iii of wr oni cnnm4 no i Do)le Livasy Doyle John Livasy, 80, of Mesa, formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa.

Livasy was bom Aug. 8, 1920, in Bamum, Webster County, Iowa He attended schools in Fort Dodge and served four years with United Sates Corps, 687th Platoon, during World War II. He married Oral Belle Bea Gehrt Aug. 9, 1947, at Methodist Church parsonage in Fort Dodge. He worked for United States Postal Service in Fort Dodge for 26 years before he retired in 1975.

They moved to Mesa in 1985. He was a former member of Postal Supervisors Union, Elks, American Legion and Trinity United Methodist Church, all of Fort Dodge. Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Vernon (and wife, Judy) Livasy of Fremont and Bob (and wife, Pam) Livasy of Spencer, Iowa; a sister, Shirley Thom of Eagle Grove, Iowa; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and four brothers and sisters. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday at Bruces Funeral Home in Fort Dodge with the Rev. Melvin W. Ammon officiating. Visitation will be tonight in the funeral home. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge.

Memorials have been established to East Valley Adult Day Care, in care of Love of Christ Lutheran Church, 1525 N. Power Road, Mesa, Ariz. 85205 Frank Conkling NORTH BEND The funeral for Frank E. Conkling, 78, of North Bend will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend.

He died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Conkling was bom Aug. 16, 1922, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He grew up and graduated from high school in Council Bluffs.

He served in United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Japan. He married Bernice Ttenopir Sept. 29, 1990, in Fremont. He then worked for Union Pacific Railroad and Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. He then moved to Fremont.

He Conkling worked for Stormor Inc. until that firm closed and then did telemarketing after his retirement. He moved to North Bend in 1990. chairman. He was a member of St.

Marys Catholic Church in West Point and American Legion Post 70 of West Point and West Point Commercial and Lions Clubs. In 1999, he received West Point Community Service Award. He received the 1995 Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity Stahl Award and was recognized for dedication of service and support to Franciscan of Christian Charity. Survivors include: his wife; four daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Ron) Jones of Hartington, Charleen (Mrs.

Bill) Flint of Columbus, Lori Stevens of Overland Park, Kan. and Janell (Mrs. Steve) Miller of Norfolk; a son. Chuck (and wife, Christine) Stevens of Omaha; two sisters, Ann Perk of Sioux Falls, S. D.

and Alice (Mrs. Bill) Lynch of Yankton, S. and 12 grandchildren. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St Marys Catholic Church in West Point with the Rev.

James Ryberg officiating. Visitation will be 8 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stalp Funeral Home in West Point. A rosary will be 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday for the public in the funeral home. Burial will be 3 p.m. with military rites on Thursday in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemeteiy in Bow Valley. Memorials have been established to St.

Marys Catholic Church and St. Francis Hospital Foundations, both of West Belle Chapman NORTH BEND The funeral for Belle Chapman, 93, of North Bend was 1U this morning at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. She died Friday, Dec. 9, 2000, at A.J.

Merrick Manor in Fremont. Belle Watt was bom Nov. 5, 1907, in North Bend. She married Michael Chapman April 19, 1938, in North Bend. They owned and operated Watts Store from 1925-73.

After her retirement, she was a homemaker. Her spouse died Jan. 17, 1992. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Altar Society and Christian Mothers, all in North Bend.

Survivors include; two daughters, Mary Ann (Mrs. Duane) Emanuel and Betty (Mrs. Eddie) Watt, all of North Bend; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters. The Rev.

Steve Emanuel officiated this mornings service. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in North Bend. Rozanek and Son Colonial Chapel in Fremont is in charge of arrangements. Patrick Chereck ITHACA A memorial service for Patrick T. Chereck, 49, of Ithaca will be 2 p.m.

Thursday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo. He died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at his home. Chereck was bom Nov. 25, 1951, in Omaha.

He was a 1969 graduate of Benson High School in Omaha. He enlisted Feb. 11, 1970, in United States Marine Corps in Omaha He served during the Vietnam era and was discharged from the Marines on Dec. 31, 1971, at Camp LeJune, N. C.

He worked for 27 years for Hammon Custodis Construction Company in Indiana. He traveled throughout the country working as a bricklayer, building industrial smoke stacks. He also worked some locally when he was in between projects. Chereck was a member1 of Omahas Bricklayers Union. Survivors include: a daughter, Stephanie Chereck of Hastings; a brother, Rex Chereck of Ames; and several half brothers and half sisters.

The Rev. Carl Utley will officiate Thursdays service. There is no visitation. A flag presentation and military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by American Legion Post 82 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4502, both of Wahoo. Leonard Hines Leonard Hines, 79, of Fremont died Sunday, Dec.

10, 2000, at Fremont Area Medical Center. Hines was bom May 8, 1921, in Morse Bluff. He grew up at Morse Bluff, then farmed east of North Bend. He married Beatrice McMahan Aug. 24, 1947, in Fremont.

They moved to Fremont in 1955. He was employed at Consolidated Blenders for several 1 years, then worked in the refuse removal busi- 1 ia ness for his father-in-law, Hines He then operated Hines Refuse Service in Fre mont 1960-83, After his retirement, he worked at Wendys for six years. Hines was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Fremont. Survivors include; his wife; a son, Lonnie Hines of Fremont; three daughters, Lenice Hines of Fremont, Susan (Mrs. Rick) Nutzman of Falls City, and Sally Hines of Phoenix; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. The funeral was this morning at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, The Rev. Greg Hall officiated. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont. Virgil Lane OAKLAND Virgil R.

Lane, 90, of Oakland died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m.

Wednesday at Palmquist-Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland and will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Hooper Cemeteiy in Hooper. Hospital Admissions Jacqulyn Rathjen of Blair. None. Births Dismissals None.

Infant son of Dean and He was a former member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 200 in Fremont. Survivors include: his wife; a son, Francis (and wife, JoAnn) Zakovec of Morse Bluff; a daughter, Janice Hamilton and fianc6, Bob Leffers of Schuyler; a brother, Leslie Conkling of Bevard, N.C.; two sisters, Leona Peters of Council Bluffs and Audrey (Mrs. Bob) Williams of Portland, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, three sisters and a son-in-law. The Rev.

Don Canady will officiate Wednesdays service. Visitation will be 4-9 tonight with family receiving friends 6-8 tonight and 9 a.m. until service time, all in the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemeteiy in Cedar Bluffs. A memorial has been established to North Bend Rescue Squad.

Point. Jerry Schmidt A memorial service for Jerry L. Schmidt, 42, of Fremont, formerly of Houstisford, will be 4 p.m. Friday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Houstisford. He died Saturday, Dec.

9, 2000, at Fremont Area Medical Center. Schmidt was bom June 3, 1958, in Waukesha, Wis. He grew up in Houstisford and graduated from Houstisford High School. He moved to Fremont in 1994 and worked for Fremont Contract Carriers and most recently as a driver for Central States TVuck-ing. He served in United States Marines for two years.

Survivors include: his fiancee, Heather Foster of Fremont; his mother, Evelyn Schmidt of Houstisford, a son, Kenneth Grienger of Watertown, three brothers, James (and wife, Linda) Schmidt of Lebanon, Jeff Schmidt of Hartford, Wis. and John (and wife, Paula) Schmidt of Kenosha, three sisters, Barbara (Mrs. Larry) Uecker of Houstisford, Beverley Schmidt of Watertown and Becky (Mrs. Scott) Gocken of Rosendale, Wis. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

There is no visitation or local service. Burial will be in Houstisford Cemetery in Houstisford. Svehla, 70, of Schuyler died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at North Kansas City Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Svehla was bom Sept. 28, 1930, in Colfax County. He married Alice Brabec Dec. 28, 1954, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Clarkson.

They farmed south of Clarkson until moving in 1991 to Schuyler. He served in United States Army from 1952-1954, during the Korean War. He was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, past commander and life member of Comhusker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6419 of Clarkson, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles and served on the board of Farmers Union of Clarkson and School Board for District 30. Survivors include: his wife; four daughters, Gwen (Mrs.

Dave) Mach of Linwood, Sandy (Mrs. Stan) Brichacek of Clarkson, Laurie (Mrs. Marty) Schlautman of Clarkson and Shelley (Mrs. Tfeny) Baumert of Fremont; four sons, Rodney (and wife, Maiy) Svehla and Randy (and wife, Lisa) Svehla, all of Clarkson, Dan (and wife, Heather) Svehla of Bellevue and Larry Svehla of St Helena of two brothers, LeRoy (and wife, Norma) Svehla of Schuyler and Duane Svehla of Clarkson; 22 grandchildren and 13 stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and a grandchild.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Marys Catholic Church in Schuyler with the Revs. Gerald Leise and Paul Ortmeier officiating. Visitation will be 1-6 tonight at Rracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler, tonight at the church and will continue 9 a.m.

until 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A rosary will be 3 today in the funeral home. A vigil service will be 7 :30 tonight at the church. Burial will be in Schuyler Cemeteiy.
