The bone of contention in this one is Dr.

He has been seriously Injured in an auto crash on the border between East and West Germany. pie Communists rescue hiin and save his life but tell the Americans that he is too seriously injured to return to to his satisfaction exactly who this latter day Tin -Woodsman really Dabbling Forbidden There are a few holes in this, of course. As we all know from our current events quiz, the FBI is forbidden by law from dabbling in espionage operations outside the U.S. Also, Gould, with his mod haircut and rumpled suit, looks as much like an FBI agent as Mae West looks like a telephone pole.

Old J. Edgar would certainly never let one of his boys go around looking like that. But Gould gives a competent, if rather sleepy, performance. Howard also does well except for a few slips of his Russian-accented tongue. Both actors have done better work but they manage to keep things moving.

The plot is rather conventional but the ending is imaginative and actually builds some suspense due in no small part to Jack Gold's direction. The film, for the most part, remains distinctly average but better than mediocre. i vyusTNTfVf FlAZA V064-34tl Jf tony Tsm-MSgV CLINT 1 NOW EASTWOOD "LEPKE" SEE THE MOST I "ElftER 1 COLOR Jl LUGGABLE HERO 1 color V(jScuNV -i- A "'xrx I KISART 1 now 3 mjlastsA VERY FUNNY C. Rogers is unsure if this walking sardine can is the real Dr. Martino, a ringer for or a brain-washed Dr. Martino. At any rate, Rogers begins an extensive debriefing in order to prove whether or not the returnee is who he says he is. There are a number of scenes showing the Ameri-cans' questioning, bugging, wiretapping and surveillance with a number of flashbacks of the doctor's similar treatment from the Soviet intelligence chief, Colonel Azerin (Trevor Howard).
