Dean Jr. Wednesday charged that Conservation Commission Chairman Evelyn Payne was "remiss in her remarks" about the Selectmen's role in notifying the state of two neglected dams. At the commission's Monday night meeting, Mrs.

Payne said the Selectmen returned a commission letter and ignored a request. The commission wanted the town to ask state engineers to inspect the Hoxie Brook dam above Forest Avenue and the Fisk Street dam. The town, however, last week asked the state Department of Public Works to order Adams Paper Associates owner of the Fisk Street dam, to clean it up. If the company refuses, the state can repair it and bill the company for the work. Dean said the letter returned to Mrs.

Payne was not sent by the Selectmen but by the state. He said both the commission and the Selectmen had written to the state. Errant tourist meets Andre the seal BANGOR, Maine (UPI German tourist Erwin Kreuz today ends his whirlwind romance with the state of Maine. The West German brewery worker is being flown by a California newspaper to the West Coast where he will spend the last three days of his vacation. Kreuz' adventures started after he mistakenly stepped off a charter flight during a Bangor stopover two weeks ago and spent four days sightseeing in what he thought was a San Francisco suburb. Thursday he laughed and clapped his way through a visit with Andre the seal, who is known throughout Maine for his annual swims from his winter home in Boston to his summer home in Rockport.

Kreuz said he will return to Maine next summer and if he does he may become a landowner. Call (203) 482-0247 i. reg. 99c reg. 1.75 now Johnson eV Johnson o.
