The Gazette, June 13, 2000 IOWA CEDAR RAPIDS Ruth Hess, 94, of 130 Thomp- son Dr. SE. died Sunday, June 11, 2000, in her home after an extended illness. Memorial service: 2:30 p.m. Friday, First Presbyterian Church.

Private inurnment: Cedar Memorial Mausoleum, before the memorial service at the church. The Rev. Mary Campbell Hay will officiate. Arrangements are with Turner Chapel East. Ruth is survived by her husband.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Curtis and Roy; and two sisters, May and Loretta. Niles was born March 30, 1937, in Barron County, to Frank and Hattie Stanford Davis. He married Joyce Peterson on Dec. 9, 1985, in Cedar Rapids.

15, 1906, on the Pratt Fruit Farm, west of Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Grant Vocational High School. He married Agnes Groat on Oct. 22, 1932, in Waverly, Iowa. Dave was a member for more than 48 years of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and usher.

He worked many years as a pressman for Stamats Publishing and 17 years for the Cedar Rapids Public School system, where he was an engineer at Hayes and Hoover Schools. A wood craftsman and carver, Grandpa Pratt carved birds, built miniature barns, dollhouses, and other toys for his children and grandchildren. He was a tenor soloist at weddings, nursing home services and was a pupil of Ralph Leo, a local voice teacher. He had a natural ear in music and enjoyed playing the violin. Dave looked forward to his eternal resting place.

Wiggins, 83, of Fort Collins, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, in Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins, after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. to service time. Burial: Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include an adopted son, Don and wife Marla and their son Brian Wiggins of North Liberty; and a niece, Sally Paul Taylor of Stanwood. Also surviving are longtime special friends and caregivers, Jack and Betty Kuhn and their grandson Jacob Williams, Debbie Kuhn, Cherie and husband Mike Darby and their children, all of Fort Collins, Teri and husband Rich Wells of Denver and Pam and husband Jeff Westrom of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by parents; his first wife, Irene; his second wife, Twila; and his sister, Jo Lary. Jim was born April 20, 1917, the son of Harry and Bessie Meakins Wiggins, in Marion, Iowa. He worked with his parents on their dairy farm, located two miles north of Marion, and delivered milk for many years.

After marrying Irene Paul, they farmed north of Mount Vernon. Jim took a job with Kruse Lumber and moved to Mount Vernon. Jim worked at Kruse Lumber until his retirement. Irene died in 1982 and he married Twila Meyers in 1983. Twila died in 1993 and Jim moved to Fort Collins to live with Jack and Betty Kuhn.

While living in Mount Vernon, Jim was very active in the Lisbon-Mount Vernon Rotary Club, serving on its board, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He also was a member of the Businessmen's Association and a longtime member of First Congregational Church in Cedar Rapids. A memorial fund has been established. Sharae is survived by her son, Gregory of Shellsburg; two sisters, Karin Capri of Mount Vernon and Lori Burns of San Diego; a brother, Mark Hylbak of Atlanta, and her mother, Evelyn Hylbak of Mount Vernon. She was preceded in death by her father, Vincent, who died Dec. 12, 1989.

Sharae was born Sept. 15, 1950, in Rockford, the daughter of Vince and Evelyn Hylbak. She moved to Mount Vernon in 1967 from Rockford. She graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1969 and Kirkwood Community College. She worked 26 years for Sodexho Marriott Dining Service at Cornell College.

Mount Vernon Mount Ver- non, IA 52314. Colorado Springs, formerly of North Liberty and Iowa City, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, in a Colorado Springs hospital after a sudden illness.

Memorial services will be at a later date in North Liberty, where burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Steve; four brothers, Tim, Gene, Bob and Jack Herring; and six sisters, Elsie Martin, Geraldine Gassman, Mary Ann Luedeman, Helen Davis, Irma Herring and Emily Koenigsacker. Also surviving are three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Herring. Born Oct.

Survivors include a son, Scott of Washington. WELLMAN Gunther John Christiansen, 76, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, in his home after a lengthy illness. Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Powell Funeral Home, Wellman, by the Rev. Doug Achterhof.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta; three sons, Kevin and wife Judy and Brian and wife Brenda, all of Wellman, and Alan and wife. Janelle of Keota; two stepdaughters, Vicki Mosby and husband John of Eugene, and Christi Jirsa and husband Dan of Wellman; 12 grandchildren; a greatgrandchild; and a brother, Carl of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gunther John was born June 14, 1923, in Wobbenbull, Germany, the son of Johannes and Anna Hellman Christiansen. He served in the Air Force during World War II. Since 1958, he had lived in the Wellman community, where he was a self-employed carpenter. On May 30, 1959, he married Roberta Moore in Muscatine. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

A memorial fund has been established for the Wellman Volunteer Ambulance and Washington County Hospice. WEST UNION Anna Wolfs, 78, died Sunday, June 11, 2000, in Lutheran Hospi- tal, La Crosse, after a long illness. Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Stavanger Lutheran Church, Ossian, by Pastor Cindy Arndt.
