Cap Searles Runs Amuck and Turns From Visions of Gay Paree to Contemplating the Gray Walls of a Dismal Pri son The Story. Arthur W. Searles, a dick sod nervy citizen, whose parents reside on East Washington street' in this oity, is languishing in the dark, dismal -Tombs in New York city. SupL Byrne's lynx eyed officers are responsible (or bie arrest and the future dose not look eo bright tor "Cap aa it did a day or so ago. Then he contemplated a trip to gay "Paree on oi of the Compagnie Omerala Transatlantique ooean liners; mw it looks like at least sixty daya in a New York workhouse.

The reason tor Searles' inoaroeration dates back to the time ha was employed in the circulation department of the In dianapolis Sentinel. While there he became very Intimately acquainted with tbe papera management and was in the habit ot lending it email aumi of money, $75 at a time, with which it kept ita bead above water. Searlee was in Muncie a few week ago and from here be went to New York City. Not muoh was beard of him except that hie mail went to the Hoffman Houae. He wrote to friends Indiana-polie telling them that ha was going on the road thia year with the Barnum Bailey ehow but further than this noth ing waa known.

Some. days ago reports began to oome into the ofjloe of the IndianapoHa Sentinel to the effeot that in New York City one Barry T. Monroe waa obtaining transportation from vanoue railroad and ateamebip companies upon the presentation ot credentials, certifying that he waa tbe duly authorized agent ot the Sentinel Company, whioh credentials were signed by B. McCarty, treasurer of the oompany. Tre greatest howl was made when Monroe secured transports tion to Paris, of tbe ateamebip company above named, and afterward told the ticket.

The ciroumetsnoee were reported to the Sentinel Company and it, knowiDg that the man waa an impostor, at once began an investigation. Suspicion fixed itself upon Searlee and when it waa learned that be waa loafing around tbe headquarters ot the big show Byrne's "Finest were instructed to take him in to oustody on suspicion of being a forger. This was done at 6 p. m. on Wednesday and since then Searles haa been in priaon.

The Sentinel Company bava evidently taken tbi position to be on tbe aafeeide in the matter. It i not known that any pert of the oredeotial held by Monroe are a forgery. While in the employ of the Sentinel Searlee may have gotten hold of a letter-head with McCartys name to it and just retained it with the intention of naing it to hi personal advantage some time in the future. When arrested Searlee refused to give hie name end no paper of any kind were found on his person. There wee absolutely nothing that wonld reveal hi identity.

Since hie' arrest he haa doubtless undergone tbe "sweeting system in vogue in New York City polioe circles, for yesterday it wee learned that he bed admitted that his name waa Searlee, but poetively refused to give the address of bis lodging place in New York. He was arrested at B-B headquarters and it was known that he got bie mail at the Hoff man House. Aano paper were found on him tbe conclusion waa evidently reached (hat they were oonoesled in hie lodgings. The address of these being secret and as the Sentinel Company probably wants tbe credential more than they do Seerles tbe reason for tbe atrenuoua exertion to ascertain bia lodging place becomes apparent A telegram etatiog that Searlee was under am et but that be refused to give hie New York sddreee, and asking that it be forwarded waa received in this oity last evening. Tbe address was not sent.
