VETERANS SEND FOR SPECIAL INFORMATION The VOICE of BROADWAY By JACK O'BRIAN Headmaster Andy Griffith Reveals Plans For New Show (Substituting for Jack O'Brian is Flip Wilson is also busy working on his new comedy-variety TV show for this fall.) By FLIP WILSON The Reverend LeRoy would like to thank Jack O'Brian. You don't know who the Reverend LeRoy is Well, that's not really surprising because he hasn't been on television before. You've perhaps heard me talk about him, but you've never seen him. Starting September you'll be seeing quite a lot of him. My daddy sn' much Andy new NBC series, "The Flip Wilson Show," will be ringing your chimes every Thursday evening on NBC tarting September 17.

Reverend LeRoy is a very hip Rev Geraldine goes to his so that'll give you an idea of the kind of Rev he is. Reverend LeRoy preaches at the of What's Happening Now on Easy Street. The Rev says profound things ike: "The road to Easy Street through the sewer." The Rev also owns the barbecue place next door, so people who come to church can order up while they're istening to him. We're building a set called Street at NBC, and the Rev's church will be a storefront the block. That will give us a chance to hold some down-home services and present some of the op singing groups around.

Ve're going to build the bar- place as well so we can have Moms Mabiey there, and an after-hours place so we can present exciting, great new tal- I'm really excited about the series, and I believe in what I'm going to do. Each week I'll give it an honest shot, and if it doesn't work, I say, O. K. we do something else next week. On the first show, we're going have that great Briton David 'rost, soul brother number one fames Brown, Sunday's Child, Muppets and Big Bird.

How's that for a line-up? Then on future shows we'il have my old buddy Arte Johnson, Raymond Burr from "Ironside," The Supremes, Marcel Marceau, Redd Foxx, The Temptations and lots of other great people. On Sesame Street The Muppets and Big Bird, as -loud, aunng i you know are on the fabulous Federal batte es ana program Sesame Street which is bombarded Ft Sumter fit wt vr A 36 Charleston Harbor. Hev and Geraldine watch it, too Well, from tirrte to time some oi the famous characters from the show will be joining us and we're really looking forward to We're hoping that the Sesame Street characters will help us reach the kids. But we want to try and reach all segments of the public. If we don't something for someone on one show, why, he can come back next week and we'll have something for him then.

Some people have asked me if hey're going to be seeing a lot of Geraldine in the new series, and the answer is not too much. plan to feature her once or twice a month, but that's all. Truth of the matter is I don't want to wear the poor girl out. She's been working very hard during the last few months, and I figure I ought to give her a bit of a rest. Added to that, I don't want to get myself trapped by a character I've created.

I do one character, and after a while, I jet no fun out of it, and maybe hen the public gets tired of it, and then where am And I would hate it if the public ever come back and blame the writers. I'm supposed to be the professional comic. I'm supposed (o know. I'm the guy out there, so if the monologue isn't working, I've got to be ready to make it work. I've been asked if I'm worried at the prospect of doing an hour- long show every week, but my feeling is that an hour doesn't seem like a long time if the chemistry is right, and I think it is.

I've studied and worked for fifteen years for this moment, and I think that now I'm qualified to do it. But I'm bringing the Rev along with me on the show as a little extra added insurance. I want the show to be a success, and I figure that a little extra praying won't hurt. And when the Reverend LeRoy prays, he prays! I think the most Imprtant part of the show will be the beginning. If the opening's bad, people watching are either going to turn off or tune in to another station. Everyone wants to be part of a good show, and I have to go out there and get it started.

That is my main duty. And if I go out there and die, I can't Doubl The bonus of lighter tasting air-cured hurley tobaccos in Lucky Filters. It won't be all fun and games at Andy's school, either. One of the scripts begins with Andy making a lecture about misuse of pills and ends with a star pupil in the hospital with an overdose. "Oh, we've got some strong stuff, all right, some real strong ituff," Andy said. "This won't be an out-and-out comedy, there'll be some hilar- ous stuff in it, too. But you just do a school show in this day and age and not take up problems.

'Yeah, I know the danger. That switchboard is going to ight up like a Christmas tree after some of our shows. I know lome of the fans of the old ihows are going to be disappointed. I just hope we can keep of them and add a lot of young crowd so we can make a go of it."
