Associated Press Sioux City makes City Hall Lettermans home office don't know if it will do any good, but it's a lot of funs Mayor Jim Wharton has picked up the Late Show with David Letterman. So far, other stations in Sioux City have declined to pick up Lettermans show. For now, Sioux Citians can watch Letterman on local cable, which is airing a broadcast from KELO in Sioux Falls, S.D. But, as of Oct. 5, new federal laws will prohibit cable officials from offering the Late Show.

Entrepreneurs have moved to cash in. Councilman Bob Scott and his brother, Jim, of S.S. Coe Sign are selling T-shirts and caps that include The Top 10 Reasons Why KMEG Wont Air Letterman. SIOUX CITY (AP) City Hall is abandoned, cracking, structurally suspect and a good place for David Lettermans home office, city officials decided Fri-; day. Mayor Jim Wharton named City Hall as Lettermans home office during a rally at City Hall and invited Letterman to town.

I dont know if it will do any good, but its a lot of fun, Whar- ton told a crowd of about 50 as he unveiled a temporary home I office sign. Avery Bros. Sign Co. plans to hang a more permanent i home office sign on City Hall soon. During Lettermans first show since switching from NBC to I CBS, he named Sioux City as the mythical home office, source of the famous Top 10 lists.

i Viewers suspect Letterman selected Sioux City because it is the only television market that does not carry his new show. Bruce Lewis, general manager of the local CBS affiliate KMEG, has filled Lettermans time slot with the exploits of future Riverside, Iowa, native Capt. James T. Kirk and the crew of the Star-ship Enterprise. Other CBS affiliates around the country also have declined to carry the show, but in each of those markets, another station Dave LeGree puts the finishing touches on a billboard in downtown Sioux City Friday morning announcing old City Hall as the home office of the Late Show with David Letter- 1993 KCRG-TV 0 WEATHER LAB Weather Report Saturday, September 4, 1993 Low Friday 5c High Friday 73 Normal Low Temperature Normal High Temperature 73 24-hour Low Thursday g2 24-hour High Thursday 7-) Precipitation tO 7pm (Downtown) 0 00" Precipitation to 7pm (Airport) 01 Total for September (Airport) g.02" EASTERN Highs: 73 to 77 Lows: 48 to 52 WESTERN Highs: 75 to 79 Lows: 48 to 52 Normal for September 3 90" Normal Through September 27.82" Total for 1993 54.14" Precipitation last 12 months 68.76" Sunset tonight 7:36 pm Sunrise Sunday 6:36 am Year ago today: High 79 Low 51 Precipitation: 0.00" Record High Today: 105 in 1925 Record Low Today: 39 in 1928 Ides moines UT CEDAR RAPIDS EXTENDED FORECAS IOWA FORECAST Scattered cloudiness is expected today as a weak cold front slides across the state.
