The American Society of Municipal Improvements will hold Its sixteenth annual convention at Little Rock, Arkansas, November 9, 19 and 11.

The sessions will be held In the city hall building. Matters of utmost Importance to cities, will be discussed by authorities and Investigators. Franchise, park, taxation, water works, playgrounds, fire protection, commission plan of government, and similar problems will be the subject of speeches. Almost every section of the United States Is represented on the program. The city has been making great preparation for the meeting, and has outlined a number of entertainment features.

In connection with the convention there will be an exposition of municipal appliances and materials. H4 The Spooky Season. Again Its Halloween time. It Is a strange, wlerd season. It gets Into the brain, as It were.

LaVerne Grinipe was the ietim of a surprise party at 'his home, 716 Washington street last evening when a large number of his friends unexpectedly swooped down upon hint and with games and refreshments made the 'evening pass pleasantly for all. AAA Katharine Ridgeway. The Athenaeum was jammed. There were people standing through out the entire recital given by Katharine Ridgeway'at the Steel Works club last night. It was a splendid tribute to her attractively artlslte talents. one which she well merited.

She iiad a cold and the quality of her voire troubled her somewhat but nevertheless the audience was spellbound by it. enraptured with tho human nature and the art, the art which is able to conceal art, which made the evening one of pure del, slit to the hundreds who were, there. For Katharine Ridgeway Is peerless. Whether she Is doing tragedy or pathos. The Bogey Man or a Joke, she is simply unapproachable.
